Pride | Zappos for Good

A Different But Equally Beautiful Pride

Pride Month as we know it is often a rainbow-colored celebration of love, acceptance, and equality. This year, Pride looks a little different, but is just as important as ever. Spreading awareness, inclusion, and honoring the beauty of diversity not only represent our values in standing as members and allies of the LGBTQIA+ community, but also the Black community. Zappos is dedicated to supporting and uplifting LGBTQIA+ and Black voices this Pride and every day year round—join us.

Charitable Donation to the Ali Forney Center

On June 28th, 1969, a group of queer and transgender women of color led by Stormé DeLarverie, Sylvia Rivera, and Marsha P. Johnson fought back against police violence in their community known as the Stonewall uprising. Stonewall is considered to be one of, if not the, most influential events in the fight for LGBTQIA+ rights.

To honor the 51st anniversary of the Stonewall uprising, Zappos for Good is donating $51,000 to the Ali Forney Center, the largest agency in the country dedicated to protecting LGBTQIA+ youths from the harms of homelessness and empowering them with the tools needed to live independently.

Ali Forney was a gender-nonconforming teen who fled his home at 13 and was forced into homelessness. Ali was dedicated to helping other young people and publicly advocated for the safety of homeless LGBTQIA+ youth. In December of 1997, Ali was tragically murdered in Harlem, New York.

Founded in 2002 in his memory, the Ali Forney Center houses and protects homeless LGBTQIA+ youth in New York. AFC is dedicated to educating teens about safe sex and HIV prevention while also providing food and water, medical and mental health services, volunteer mentors, educational and career programs, life skills training and much more.

To support the Ali Forney Center's mission and help transform the lives of homeless LGBTQIA+ youth, please consider making a donation.
