Prom Closet 2016: Rolling Out The Red Carpet

The Prom Closet is one of the biggest and most popular events Zappos hosts each year. As Prom season approaches, Zappos worked with brands to provide dresses, tuxes, shoes, purses and other prom necessities to local students unable to afford them. For 2016, Zappos was able to give away approximately 3,300 dresses and 600 suits to kids who otherwise wouldn’t have been able to attend their school prom.

At the Prom Closet, students get the full shopping experience. The Zappos plaza was transformed into a shopping wonderland where they were able to try on different items in a variety of colors and styles. There was a DJ on hand to keep spirits high as the students wait for their turn to shop.

Barbers, hairstylists and makeup artists were also on hand so the kids look and feel their best. Zapponians even came out and volunteered as stylists to help the kids find something just right for the big night. Before the students left, they got to pose for their picture with friends and walk the red carpet.

This event isn’t a favorite to the community because kids get free stuff. Rather, it’s a favorite because those students who often get by on so little are given the chance to walk away with the star treatment. They’re reminded that their happiness and success matters. Prom is a milestone in most teenagers’ lives that can often be overlooked, and Zappos is honored to be a part of it.
