I've never spent this much on a rice cooker before. This cooker makes wonderful brown rice! I love the fact that I can put my rice on, dash to the grocery store, and when I return home, the rice is done, and it automatically turns on the warmer when the rice is done. However I notice there is a small flaw in the rice bowl, which has a nonstick coating, in a spot which wasn't noticeable when I first purchased the item...right up near the rim of the bowl. I am worried that the flaw will eventually cause the nonstick coating to peal. I'm not sure what to do about this now. The directions which come with this item were obviously originally written in Japanese and then translated. I found the directions difficult to understand in the beginning. They aren't organized in a logical way. It took me a few hours to figure everything out. But now I can easily make rice without consulting the directions. I recommend this product especially if you like brown rice. But keep in mind the bowl has a nonstick coating.

This is THE most amazing thing! You need to buy it! I really never felt I needed a rice cooker; heck, I am Chinese and I can make great rice on the stove-top. But this is literally life-changing. The timer feature is absolutely awesome, even life-changing! It makes perfect rice (we have made perfect white rice, jasmine rice, brown rice, forbidden black rice and sushi rice. I can't wait to try gaba-brown (whatever that is - gotta do some research)). A tip from another reviewer: the porridge feature is perfect for making good old-fashioned steel-cut oatmeal which is awesome. Now my husband and I wake in the morning and our kitchen smells yummy and cozy. We have healthy oatmeal, steaming hot and good-for-you every morning (particularly good with brown sugar and blueberries). In the evening, rice is ready to go when we come home from work & you'd be surprised how much less of a task making dinner is just due to this small factor. It is very easy to clean. Pricey: I had second thoughts and almost had a heart attack when I pressed the button to really purchase it but it is worth every penny:I have absolutely no regrets. Why is it that anything in stainless steel finish is like double the cost?? Anyhow, I absolutely love my Zojirushi so much that I immediately bought on for my dad (albeit a different model). Have no fear with this purchase: I highly recommend it; remember, I am Chinese so you can trust me on this one.
Brands I'd also recommend: keurig, nespresso, all-clad, ken shun knives
