Buy it - This one is a beauty. I have been through a few pairs of the Italian Vasque Sundowner Classics. I've also worn out the Asolo 520s and a few Merrells. This Zamberlan is superior to any of my previous boots. Comfortable right out of the box. I especially like that the upper is just one piece of leather even through the tongue (Check out Zappos multi view). My Asolo’s stitching gave out where the tongue was attached to the upper. No worries there with this boot. No problems slogging through SE Alaska’s rocky shorelines and swampy muskeg.
Brands I'd also recommend: Asolo 520s

Handcrafted Quality - I've owned various pairs of boots over the years that that just haven't held up. You do get what you pay for as these boots are very well made and way the leather tongue is part of the boot upper itself not a separate flap is what sold me. You can't go wrong with these boots. It's refreshing to actually buy shoes NOT made in china. They look good too.

Great Boot! These boots provide excellent comfort and support. No break in required. I was hesitant at first because they are a little pricey, but am really happy I purchased them.

Very disappointing - I purchased a pair of the Zamberlan boots skill GT on 1-2-08. I had never purchased the boots before but decided to try something new and I have been very disappointed. The boots have already started to fall apart, soles have started to detach along the front, leak water, and shoelaces have already needed to be replaced (small thing). I think people need to be aware of what a disappointment my new boots have been.

Tough! Overall this seemed like a very well built boot. The stitching and materials felt very solid. My only gripe is with the insole and it probably has more to do with my flat feet than the boot itself. The right boot hurt the outside of my foot - so much so that I could not wear these boots for more than 30 minutes. Again, I am not sure if the boot is truly at fault for this or not. The boot did feel pretty narrow, so that may have had something to do with the pain. Zappos was awesome with the return (as usual) and I went with the Asolo Fugitive.

About Zamberlan
Made in Italy since 1929
Guiseppe Zamberlan (also known as “Bepi” for short), is the mastermind behind Zamberlan footwear. He began his career repairing shoes, which in turn developed into a career of making finely crafted boots. His passion for the trekking and the outdoors led him to search for better materials and more efficient construction methods of boot making to satisfy his need for ‘safer and easier’ movement throughout the mountains.
Zamberlan boots are quality tested for durability and performance. The Zamberlan company, which is situated at the foot of the Piccole Dolomiti, is an ideal testing ground for new products and ideas. It is within these mountains that new ideas for top quality boots are created and cultivated.
So after nearly 80 years of boot manufacturing, the Zamberlan Company is still a family run business, with the third generation actively taking part in all stages of design and production. At Zamberlan, they remain dedicated to their hand made boots and believe they will carry you well throughout your journey.

Zamberlan Skill GT - Excellent walking shoes which required very little breaking in. They weren't warm when walking in snow so aren't like my BFN boots.

These are great shoes, but beware that they run one-half US size small. I normally wear an 11.5 D and I need a 12 in this shoe. Zappos was really good to me and took back the too-small pair in exchange for the next size up. I wrote the manufacturer and they confirmed this to be the case due to several factors. Otherwise, I love these boots.

These boots were unusually comfortable from day one. Cannot yet judge long-term performance. I have put about 45 miles on them so far in fairly rocky Northern New England terrain, including Mt. Washington, King Ravine, Baxter Peak, and Mt. Moriah. They have excellent grip and good support. (I can't comment on the insoles. I use Superfeet orange inserts. I do not bother to try the stock insoles first any more.) I noticed that they scuffed up very quickly, but I have previously worn nubuck-type boots, which don't show rock abrasion so readily. I had a hard time choosing among these boots, the Asolo TPS 520, and the Scarpa Kailash GTX. All 3 had a very nice fit, although the Scarpa seemed especially snug without being tight. I eventually chose the Zamberlan Skill GT on the basis of (1) likely durability (far fewer sewn seams than the Scarpa, and even the Asolo has a 2-piece tongue) and (2) what seemed like better cushioning in the sole, less bottom-of-the-foot fatigue.

Have been wearing a pair of Vasque Sundowners that I purchased over 20 years ago. They look absolutely worn out but without question, are the best, most comfortable shoes I have ever put on my feet. I recently purchased another pair but to my dismay they were horrible. Didn't fit right, were somewhat boxy in the toe, and were obviously not the same shoe. I discovered the old Vasque Sundowners were Italian made while the new ones are not. Hence the search for a good Italian made hiking boot. I discovered the Zamberlan Skill GT. From the moment I put them on I knew I had a winner. Great fit, great looking boot, great support (for my application), great construction, and I have to admit, a much better boot than my old reliable Vasque boots. My first pair of Zamberlans and without question a great boot!

Super boot...cross between a backpacker and an approach shoe. Soles very sticky, plenty of support...laces can be adjusted to grip the foot firmly. Very nice for hiking, moderate loads, and (for a boot) use on high angle rock.

Chicago winter weather calls for a boot for all conditions...4-wheel-drives for the feet. These are it, and they're awesome. I've had a pair of Skill GT's for 2 years and continue to be impressed with their looks, comfort and warmth. For me, style rating is way above 5 stars. Zamberlan US customer rep is super and, of course, Zappos is fantastic.
