Really disappointed. My go to shoes for years have been Merrell's Chameleons. They stopped making them (as well as most other of their women's hiking shoes) for some inexplicable reason, and I was looking for a replacement. I wanted something rugged, with GTX, that could take you anywhere. I have leather Zamberlan boots which so far so good, so I thought I'd try these as a lighter hiking shoe. When you take them out of the box, first thing you see is "made in China." Not cool, when you just spent quite a bit on what you thought were good Italian shoes. Okay. I put them on and went for my first hike with them. It turned out to be an 8 mile hike through a pine forest, with some off trail tramping to get around fallen logs. There were branches sticking out in places and some rocks. In short, rough enough for a test drive. At first (at home) the shoes were comfortable. When I actually hiked with them I noticed several things: They're very thin. They don't really hold your foot well. They're made from synthetic material which I thought would tear, but didn't, so it is kind of tough, but it's also much less substantial than expected. There is no arch support. The whole thing actually feels more like sneakers than hiking shoes, and more like canvas sneakers than regular gym shoes. The one saving grace was the Vibram sole, which did have a good grip. I didn't really like the look, either. It's very 'sneakery'. But that's a minor point. I think this is probably a good shoe for walking on maintained flat trail in town, but it's not a good shoe for hiking. I regret spending so much money on them when I now have to go find something else which will be more rugged and supportive. Too late to return them obviously. Not happy.

I have Zamberlan Vioz GT hiking boots that are excellent for backpacking, so I decided to try these for day hikes and camping. The fit was not on par with my other pair of Zamberlans, and neither was the comfort. My boots are Italian made. These are made in China. These shoes had one of the hardest soles I've ever put on my feet. Absolutely no cushion whatsoever. It literally felt like I was standing on concrete. I didn't even bother to try them hiking.

I am a zookeeper. That means lots of water. Hosing is a big part of my job, and I wanted a shoe that was waterproof. The Zamberlan is not waterproof. It is not like I am walking through puddles, it is just some hose spray and my socks are wet. Also, after just a couple of weeks, the laces are starting to break. Save your money, this one is not worth it.
