I'm surprised there are still no reviews for this shoe. I purchased a pair of these in 2011 (directly from Vivobarefoot, before they were available on Zappos, I think). Here are a few pros and cons. Keep in mind mine are probably an earlier model: * Great shape. Vivobarefoot knows how to shape a shoe, probably better than anyone. Lots of width in the forefoot, mid and heel feel just right to me. There are a decent number of otherwise decent minimal shoes out there that miss the mark on shape. * Great breathability (without the sock liner). Obviously. Though there is a slight caveat here: because the shoe is essentially all rubber, you will sweat a little more, and there is nothing to soak it up. Keeps them from stinking, though, and I find it doesn't become an issue unless I'm really, really hot, and I'd suggest that this isn't the shoe for your much longer runs anyway. Also, possibly the only shoe that never stinks. And you can just hose them off after a run, shake them around a little and they'll be dry in a few minutes. * Great minimalness. Super lightweight, amazing ground feel, excellent flexibility. No supoort, no padding, nice and flat. If you like minimal, this delivers. If you want cushion and arch support, get some Crocs. * Good versatility. I've used this for running, for workouts, as a water shoe, as a "sandal", good for gardening, good as a barefooting companion, etc. You can easily get a big carabiner through the holes in the heel and lash these to a backpack without any real weight penalty. Nice shoe for traveling as well. My feet always get hot on an airplane, and these are a nice closed toe alternative to sandals that are easy to remove for security while still offering some protection. A few downsides: * Fit/size is different with and without the sock liner. I was hoping to use it with and without, but I found the sock liner to be a little too small, though without it the fit of the shoe is just right. I probably should have gone a size up because I'd prefer to have it be a tad big without the liner and be able to use it. Fortunately, though, I'd say if you have another "regular" shoe you like, you don't really need this one with the liner (and take a look at the "Pure" version, which doesn't come with it). * Some top of toe rubbing where they bend, which apparently plagued some other models of Vivos. It could just be a break in thing, because I ran 5 in these just yesterday and had no issues. Could no longer be an issue, mine are an earlier model. I'd suggest Body Gliding the area for the first few runs just in case. Never had the problem using them for activities other than running. * Sole wear is quicker than other shoes. I can see that I'm just about through the sole on both sides right under my midfoot, in about a quarter sized area. Granted, I've had them for three years, but I've probably not put more than 150 miles of running on them (though likely that much of non running wear as well). Certainly not terrible Overall, I'd say that if you are a minimalist shoe enthusiast, be it for running or not, this is a great shoe to have around, even if you already have a shoe/brand that you like and plan to stick with. This shoe's versatility really make it stand out despite a few issues, and while I don't think it would ever be my primary shoe, I do find I keep coming back to it, and have done so for three years now.

I'd also recommend: Merrell, Skora

Love these shoes. I'm currently hiking the Appalachian Trail. After a long day in my hiking boots, my feet are usually feeling a little sore. My feet start to feel better immediately after I put these on. In the hot summer months I wear them without the liner; in the shoulder seasons, the liner keeps my feet warm. These shoes are lighter than Crocs and more packable. They are also a good casual shoe for wearing around town. Get lots of comments on the looks and how light weight they are. The only issue you might have is which size to buy if you want the model with the liner because the fit will be different with and without the liner. In my case, I ordered my usual size 12 and have a roomy fit without the liner which works fine and a snugger fit with the liner which is a little bit tight which I can live with. You can't go wrong with these shoes. There is quite a price spread between different color combinations. You can save quite a bit by picking a less popular color.

These are my new favorite shoes! light weight, comfortable. Wear them around the house, beach, running or add a pair of black socks and where them to work. I highly recommend them.

These are for barefoot running, minimal footbed barrier and wide toe box but we use them for water sports. The neoprene liner is great for colder water and without the liner, its everyday water fun (and they stay on!). Wish they were thicker on the bottom for a little more cush, for those of us who love our Crocs, but not the cumbersome part. Mens colors are vibrant! Ladies colors not so much.

I am someone who has been familiar with vivobarefoot for many years. I own vivo models that are no longer in production, such as the aqua and dharma shoes. In regards to sizing - I bought these with the intentions of mostly not wearing the included sock. I purchased a size I would normally purchase. Without the sock I'm happy with the sizing. The EVA shoe gives me extra room for foot flex, but still fits me properly (not too loose). If I actually use the neo like included sock with the shoe overtop - the package overall feels a little bit more snug, but not too snug. Considering how often I will wear the included sock and shoe together, it's all in an acceptable range for me. I would suggest if you intend to wear included sock and shoe together on a regular basis, probably try a 1/2 size up from your normal size. If you plan to mostly wear just the shoe, order your normal size. Why did I just not order the pure without the sock? Read the rest of my review. The Ultra is a sandal alternative for me. I can not get by in the long term wearing a sandal at my primary workplace. So I wanted something with freedom, but with more coverage than a sandal. The Ultra looked like my ticket. Although I looked at this shoe for a long, long time as an ugly shoe, times do change. It turns out I have been very happy with the shoe, without wearing the included sock. In fact I wear these shoes all the time with just barefeet, no socks at all on my feet. I find it much more comfortable to use the tongue (which is removable). Wearing the shoe for about 9 hours at a time. I do find they will get a little sweaty. I simply take off my shoes twice a day at breaks for a few moments to let things air out. Things dry out very fast! I don't see this as any problem. If you wear regular socks this is not the case, I just prefer the barefoot style. With barefooted wearing expect a few days to break in the shoes to get to more comfortable wearing. As far as the included sock. It's a bit like a thin neoprene bootie, kind of. If you ever wore a regular neoprene bootie (not vivo), well they are no fun for wide feet. This included bootie feels much more comfortable than an average bootie. They fit my wide feet much better. So it's like having a second product that I can make use of sometimes on my feet. Like when I go to my local beach, or the river to swim if I choose to have something on my feet. I also bicycle commute daily, and I hate the rain shoe cover booties on the market. Being that I live in the NW region with wet winters. My intentions is to use the whole package (included sock and shoe) as my rain riding shoe, instead of using rain shoe covers. Perhaps have a second shoe to wear when I get to work. or I can just remove the included sock, wipe down the Ultra dry and continue to wear them, with a regular sock. Don't know for sure will figure it out this winter. At any rate I like this shoe very much. I would say my intended uses of the shoe is probably a little different than the average user. I'm familiar with the brand, and can think of creative functional use outside the box. At the end of the day for the current spring/summer season. The shoes are the lightest of all my vivo shoes. They give me the most barefoot feel wearing a shoe. Slip on/off is great. I have high expectations on shoes, and they have met them. The only unanswered question is how long will the outsole last for? With my non-running everyday use. I suspect that they will last plenty long. The bottom line is my feet are happy in these shoes, and free. I prefer them over my homemade sandals, even outside of work. I'm just glad that Zappos has come around on selling vivobarefoot. I remember many years ago I requested of them to sell these type of shoes. They finally came around to be a part of the new emerging trend. It's a good thing because vivobarefoot direct customer service is really bad. Perhaps one day Zappos will offer the kids versions as well.
