I returned the 40 and got a 41, which fits my 9½" x 3½" feet perfectly. I do wear medium or lightweight wool socks rather than going barefoot inside the shoes.

My foot is 9.5 x 3.5. These, like the women's version, were too narrow and short for a 40. These are slightly wider than the Women's Synth Hiker 40, but smaller and narrower than my Women's Off Road Hi 40. I have several pairs of Vivobarefoot shoes, all 40s, and these are not true to size.
I'd also recommend: Altra
