Vivienne Westwood Anglomania + Melissa Temptation Reviews

    from D.C. baby

After receiving these, I definitely had to think twice. They are super cute and truly unique, but if you have a pair of Vivienne/Melissa 3 strap elevated shoes, you will definitely notice right off the bat that these babies are way less comfortable. What happened to the super cushy footbed? Plus, they are a little shorter in the toe than those, and my toe hits the end. That said, they are just too cute to return. They're still not extremely uncomfortable (I've definitely worn way less comfortable heels), and they make me feel like Alice from Alice in Wonderland. I got the gray, and they are a really pretty dove grey color that makes you want to throw a tea party. I love the black too, but I already have a ton of black shoes. So, if you love the Vivienne Westwood/Melissa look and the bubblegum smell of the shoes, then these are for you. You may want to wait for a sale to really be excited though because I'm still not over-the-top excited like I was for my purple 3 straps.

I am a total Gwennabe at heart and lover of "Alice in Wonderland." These were my first Vivienne Westwood + Melissa splurge (Halloween costume excuse) and I am glad that I did! They are moderately comfortable for jellies (I added an insole), easy to walk in and they smell good. I managed to participate in a flash mob dance in these before finally surrendering to bare feet. Fun, cartoony, yet alluring.

I had to exchange my pair for a size larger but that was fixed easily. They have an incense like bubble gum smell, high fashion and everything I'd expect from Vivienne Westwood. Comfort is always big for me but with an almost 4 inch heel these will take some getting used to. Now I just need to learn to walk in them!

I received these only three days after I placed the order, which was a pleasant surprise for a website that didn't charge any shipping! I was a little leery at first because I ordered a size "7" (38 on the box) even though I'm always a "6" - many other online reviews mentioned they ran small so I didn't want to take the risk (rubber doesn't stretch so it's better to get rubber shoes a little bigger than smaller). Well, thank God I did because if I had ordered a 6 my toes would have probably been killing me. These are perfect - very comfortable and supportive for the heel height. There is the tiniest bit of space in the back but it isn't noticeable because of the straps - and your toes will want a bit of breathing room in these. The color is a beautiful vibrant fuchsia/purple - not too pink. They aren't for the faint of heart and will get many stares (but compliments too!). The overall look screams "Alice in Wonderland goes to Harajuku". I could see Nicki Minaj or Katy Perry wearing these on stage - so that gives you an idea of a how loud they really look in person. I love the aroma they give off too - I suppose it's supposed to be "bubblegum" but to me it just comes across as a pleasant fragrance to help conceal the rubbery smell. I highly recommend these to those who are on the fence - they are definitely worth the discounted price if you covet truly unique shoes that don't look like anyone else's.

Vivienne Westwood is one of most fabulous and influential designers of all time. She was born on April 8, 1941 as Vivienne Isabel Swire. She taught primary school in North London. Vivienne's first husband was Derek Westwood. She had one son with Derek, named Ben, who later became a photographer.

Vivienne met Malcolm McLaren who was a friend of her brother. Malcolm and Vivienne became friends and Malcolm faked being sick for awhile to get Vivienne to take care of him and to be near her. Malcolm McLaren was the manager for the Sex Pistols and Vivienne designed the clothing for the band. Vivienne Westwood also designed clothing for the New York Dolls and other bands. Vivienne was one of the first original designers when the punk movement started. Many of her garments are now collectibles. The V&A museum in London had an exhibition of Vivienne Westwood styles from 2004-2005.

In 1970, Malcolm and Vivienne opened a shop on 430 King's Road in London called Let It Rock. They sold clothing targeted at the London Teddy Boy scene. Vivienne designed clothing for the store. The shop eventually went through a few incarnations. In 1972, the store became Too Fast to Live Too Young to Die and featured t-shirts with provocative slogans, leather clothing, and garments with zippers and chains. In 1974, the shop transformed again. It was called Sex and featured S&M clothing. Sex became synonymous with the punk scene. Then the shop became Seditionaries. Today, Vivienne Westwood's World's End iconic boutique carries her limited edition special clothing, shoes, and accessories.

Vivienne and Malcolm's son is Joseph Corre. Joseph Corre founded the women's lingerie company Agent Provocateur and now designs his own menswear line along with Simon "Branzley" Armitage named, A Child of the Jago.

Controversy surrounds the style of Vivienne Westwood. Supermodel Naomi Campbell famously took a tumble modeling nine inch platform shoes at a 1993 Vivienne Westwood Anglomania fashion show. The incident made these shoes famous. Always pushing the envelope, Vivienne Westwood excitingly experiments with the extremes of fashion.

In 1992, Vivienne Westwood married her current husband and creative partner, Andreas Kronthaler. In the same year, Vivienne caused another controversy when she received the OBE award. She twirled in her skirt and was knicker-less! She repeated the incident again in 2006 when she met the Prince of Wales.

Vivienne has always been a caring and political person. In 2005, she teamed up with British civil rights group Liberty to launch exclusive limited design t-shirts. One reads, "I AM NOT A TERRIORIST, please don't arrest me!" The other shirt reads, "Liberty - Throw Away the Key."

Vivienne Westwood collections include four women's lines: Gold Label, Red Carpet, Red Label, and Anglomania. She has a men's line appropriately titled MAN. She also has a World's End line that features her classic pieces from the Vivienne Westwood archive. Vivienne Westwood also designs a collection of bags, shoes, sunglasses, eight perfume lines, and has multitude of stores all over the world!

"You have a much better life if you wear impressive clothes." - Vivienne Westwood.
