My first time wearing these boots was a hike up South Sister in Central Oregon. 11 miles and 5000ft elevation gain. Bad idea, but my feet felt good at the end of the day. It\'s a winner.

This boot looked greenish on my monitor. The color is called "Moss Brown", which begs the question, Are they "moss" (green)? Or are they brown? Answer: definitely brown. Just received them so I can't comment on the wear, but they feel great straight out of the box and look extremely well-made and durable. My normal size 11 fits perfectly with thick socks. Not a fashion statement but that's not what we're looking for here. (I'm giving a 5 on style because it just doesn't matter and I don't want to detract from my overall rating.)

We bought these boots for our 14-old-daughter. She has been training in them for a little more than a month in preparation for a two-week hiking trip. She says they are very comfortable and she has not had any problems with hot spots or blisters. But the best part is how fast Zappos shipped them to us. I upgraded the shipping to 2-days but Zappos sent them overnight. What great customer service. I would definitely recommend both the boots and Zappos!

I bought the Vasque Wasatch boot to hike and camp the Grand Canyon for a few days in 2005 - the boots fit perfectly 5 years ago and are holding up 5 years later. I am tall, slender and wear a size 9 boot. For everyday wear, I prefer boots (usually Frye or RM Williams) but these Vasque boots are by far, the most comfortable, supportive and long-lasting. I love these boots - they continue to fit perfectly and I feel the same comfort in the boots in 2010 as I did in 2005. (My only wish is that Vasque would make everyday shoes that I could wear to work). \r\n\r\nZappos is great too!

Brands I'd also recommend: nothing compares to durability of Vasque

Rugged Trek Boot - This boot is rugged and appropriate for trekking with a heavy pack in rocky/rough terrain. The athletic fit is VERY comfortable for a boot this rugged, and it really requires almost no break-in period. I wore it around my house to ensure proper fit, then wore it on a 13-mile hike with a 40-lb pack... I had no problems at all. I could have purchased this boot from many different sources, but I chose Zappos because their customer service is truly fabulous - absolutely unequaled.

A VERY close repeat to my 15+ year old Vasque Hiking Boots - I originally purchased a pair of Vasque Clarion hiking boots (mens since they didn't have womens boots at the time) and had them until the soles fell off (needless to say I did not want to be separated from these since they were always like wearing warm, supportive bedroom slippers)! Hence, the reason when they REALLY were unwearable any longer, I began my search for the same boot. Unfortunately, the Clarion was no longer available, so I found the Vasque Wasatch boot, a very close replacement. I've worn them several times on short hikes and found them to be very comfortable right out of the box. These boots are really well made, and I'm a true consumer to the Vasque brand.

Great hiking boot! These were comfortable right out of the box --and that is rarely true for my feet. I wore this on a hike across rough, uneven lava fields in Hawaii and the ankle support was great. They did not feel too heavy (and I am NOT a regular hiker) nor did they feel too hot.

Nice! I've had a pair of Vasque hiking boots for 10yrs. I guess my feet have widened since then. I couldn't find any wides in the stores. I came here and found these, in wide! They feel wonderful. Very sturdy, supportive in the ankle, and light weight. I can't wait to take them on the trail, and I'm sure they will hold up for 10yrs, just as my other ones have.

Brands I'd also recommend: Any Vasque.

Good ankle support, wide toe box - One of my ankle sprains easily, so I need really good ankle support, and this boot has that. It also has a roomy toe box--I have a wide foot, and the wide width in this boot is plenty wide. I haven't taken the boot hiking yet, since I ordered it along with the Lowa Banff Lady, intending to choose one and send the other back. I decided on the Banff Lady, but I like this one too--the Banff is a big boot, very stiff (the best ankle support ever!) and pretty heavy, and this one is much lighter (lighter than my Montrail GTX's) and so I'm still thinking about keeping it, too. In short, although I haven't taken it hiking, it feels light, ankle support's good, toe box is excellent and the wide width is really wide. I normally wear a 9.5W and that size this boot feels like I could put a happy feet in it, so if you're between sizes, you might size down.

Easy break in - I wore these boots on a long hike the first day they arrived and they were very comfortable, although they had new boot stiffness of course. The tongue seems to be taking a little longer to soften up than the rest of the boot and rubs a little across the instep, but not so much as to cause bruising or pain. They do have some "athletic shoe feel" as advertised. I am very pleased with their grip and stability.

Great backpacking boots - My feet are wider towards toes and I usually have problems with at least one spot but did not have any issue with these boots. Feels like already worn by me! Not too heavy and great looking. I'm looking forward to trying these shoes on for the next backpacking. Free and quick shipping is also great. Thanks.

A Classic - I bought mine and was on a hike a few hours later, walking through swampy forests and over beaver dams. This shoe was comfortable from the get-go and has never leaked in the wettest conditions. Has reasonable support multi-day backpacking but light enough for day hikes or scrambling situations. Wore mine over 30 kms of difficult lava hiking on the big island of Hawaii without a blister or getting over-heated. A bit stompy for every day strolling around town, but if I lived in the country where it was muddy and wet, I'd probably never take these off. I have had them for five years and they still look relatively new. I have worn Merrill and Solomon hikers in the past and needed happy feet in order to get enough arch support, but not in these.

Excellent boots - I recently left on a 2 week back packing trip. We did a few day hikes and I noticed the sole coming off of one of my old boots. That night, we went into Banff, Alberta and I bought new boots. This was the boot I bought. Next day, I hiked 23 kilometers in new boots without a problem. We continued on our trip with damage free feet. Oh yes, they also saved me from a broken ankle when I fell. I continued walking (10 K) out it was our last day, and my ankle was badly sprained but not broken!! Five stars from me.

Quality, durable boots for a geologist - Vasque has never failed me and so far my Wasatch boots are serving me well. They're not the prettiest boots ever but don't follow my example and get suckered by a cute pair of boots by a company whose name often follows the words "District" and "British" that fail miserably within the first month of field work by getting a sliced thread in the artch and slowly fall apart so that by the end of the third month of field work you have no choice but to buy new boots. I've always used Vasque in the past so I know they can stand up to fractured granite without fail. You can never go wrong with Vasque boots!

More than anything, I appreciate that Zappos provides the opportunity to sample hiking boot styles other than those available to me locally. It takes a while to find a boot that fits right, considering the 'intimacy' one has with a hiking boot. It's not like you can slip them off under the table and give your feet a rest! This is a sturdy boot, and includes a good combination of toe room + not too much slip in the heel, which I found after trying the wide option. The bottom is excellent in wet conditions. I also liked the extra external waterproof layer for the toe area, in addition to the GRX. Personally, as long as it doesn't pinch, I will forego 'cush on the inside for a boot that will push back, rather than flex. Padding can be added with socks and inserts. It's a boot, after all!

They are not for me, gave me 4 hot spots on their maiden voyage up Mt. Baldy (12-mile, 6000' gain/loss in one day). I thought it was me but after another try of 14-mile day (2 hot spots this time), I gave them up and returned them. They are best for wide feet. My feet is not narrow but I can never lace the front tight enough so that my toes won't move around (that was with 2 layers of thick wool socks). The heels are okay because the boots can be laced tight to prevent heel movement. Also, they feel cumbersome but not heavy duty enough to tackle off trail/less maintained trail, long one day mileage, and a heavy backpack. The only attraction is the price. If you have wide feet and are price conscious, Wastach is a good choice if all you do is moderate distance day hikes with less than 15lb of weight on and not hard packed dirt terrain. By the way, they are dorky looking, not "elite hiker" like at all!
