I've been wearing this shoe for hiking for quite some time. Bought a second pair so that I don't have to carry them back and forth between my two homes. They really weigh down my luggage which was the only problem I've had with them.

Vasque Mantra - This shoe has a very roomy toe box- I almost wonder if I should have gone down 1/2 size. My foot is a normal, to slightly narrow, width and I have found it necessary to wear thicker socks. The shoe can be laced up tightly around the ankle but I think the shoe would work better for wider feet. Keen shoes have a better arch support, but Vasque's don't look like clodhoppers! Zappos shipped them overnight!! Fabulous service!

A sturdy little shoe for more serious hiking. The Vasque Mantra is a nice step up from other so-called trail-running shoes. It has a real Vibram sole and a supportive Nubuck upper for better traction and stability on more challenging, steep or rocky trails. The shoe is built on a straight last - which is great for those of us who do not have curved feet to match a lot of the other shoes on the market - and has a roomy toe box that eliminates pinching on the little toe, especially going downhill. It will also accommodate orthotics. I'm not sure whether it is waterproof (it's not a Gore-Tex lined shoe), but it is definitely a great choice for serious day-hiking or backpacking in dry conditions.

These shoes are requires no break in period, and I did not have any blisters from hiking in it; however, my toes keep on hitting the hard toe box as I descended on my hikes. My big toes are turning dark as a result. I am a size 7, but I believe that the shoes are 1/2 larger than marked. I fixed this problem by wearing two hiking socks.

I was sold on these from the moment I saw them. I will say that I found these to have a little less cushion than the Vasque Breeze Low that i\'d owned previously. Otherwise I\'ve been very happy with them. I would say that they fit pretty much like the Breeze Low. Great for hiking, but you might try another Vasque if you will be using them for an everyday crossover as well. But overall i\'ve been very happy with them.

Seem a bit larger than expected, and I've noticed an odd "clumping" sound when I walk; no sneaking up on anyone! Not my Favorite Vasques, and I've had many. Not enough cushioning.
Brands I'd also recommend: Dansko, Uggs,

Third brand I tried looking for hiking shoes for a Grand Canyon trip, and these fit perfect right out of box. I wear and ordered a 9 and I can wiggle my toes (I have a wide forefoot wearing medium to wide depending on make), nothing rubs, and heel doesn't slip. I wear with medium and thin Thorlo padded socks. Wore to cart kids around for after school practices, very comfortable and cute (a little bumpy for walking compared to regular athletic shoes) but very comfortable. I love these shoes!

Bought these for hiking in Yellowstone Nat'l Park. Fits best by ordering a half size up to accommodate cushioned hiking socks. Swapped out Vasque's thin footbed liner for a full length orthotic designed for overpronation. Shoe is built on a straight last for us low arch types. The Mantra isn't waterproof but has a Vibram sole and breathable mesh+nubuck upper. Sole is grippy, heels are shock absorbing, but definitely swap out the thin liner for something with more substance to obtain maximum cushioning and heel stability.
Brands I'd also recommend: Keen, Ariat

Buy a size up, seemed very comfortable, but too short. Not a true size.

Best hiking shoe I've ever owned! I liked them so well that when I wore out the old pair, I ordered another. Great grip on slippery rock - good heel support - moderate arch support. The only negative I would give is that my first pair had some problems with the stitching - small openings developed in the stitching on the sides - just enough to let sand in so I had to shake them out after hiking in sandy areas. Second pair is holding up fine.

Fit beautifully indoors on carpet and felt like a natural gait, but out in nature the shoes rapidly felt overwhelmingly heavy. After a couple of hours walking through the California woods, I was dragging my feet, and every step felt as if it were happening on lumpy stone. Just a tremendously stiff shoe that made my feet walk as if encased in concrete. Also, I had to go through a shallow stream bed with a little water, and I didn't immerse the foot in water but just sort of went through a puddle. Immediately my socks were soaked. So not much protection from wetness at all.

These shoes are comfortable and very durable. I bought them for work, and they've lasted way longer than the shoes I usually get (I usually get a hiking sneaker). I've been wearing them for at least 6 months, usually 5 days a week, and they are still in great condition. They don't stain easily either; I kneel or sit on my foot a lot at my job, and am working around grease and dirt, and they still look good. They are comfortable, although I always wear them with arch supports. They look nice also; I've gotten several compliments on them. I've walked and even run in them a lot; they're not too clunky or heavy. Overall, very sturdy and comfortable shoes. They might cost a pretty penny but they last a long time.
