Most comfortable and cool boot ever! Just came back from hiking for a week in the desert. These boots were cool and comfy. They are well made; I also like the hooks that hold the laces (the hooks are long enough that the laces don't fall out, as they did on my other boots). I ordered 1/2 size up, as usual for hiking boots. Vasque boots are the best!

Brands I'd also recommend: Keen, Teva, Converse

Marshmallows.... That's what it felt like when I slipped these on! What an amazing feel these boots have to them. I had a pair of Asolo's and was in the process of breaking them in for my trip to Mt. Rainier later this month. As much as I tried to like them, they felt a little unstable (as if my ankle might roll) and really pinched the hell out of my toes (and I purchased them in wides). The Vasque boot almost feels like I put on a tennis shoe. The foot bed has plenty of cushion and spring and the boot fits well all around my foot and ankle (no pinch points). The new Gore-Tex XCR is keeping my foot nice and cool. I put them on as soon as they arrived (which they did in less than 24 hours!) and haven't taken them off since. I'm feeling really good about the hike now that I know I have a boot that fits well and looks sharp! Props to Zappos for the awesome customer service...I love you guys.

Brands I'd also recommend: New Balance, The North Face (trail-runners only)

They are a breeze! The second time that I ever wore these boots was on a trail in the Tongass National Forest in Alaska and no discomfort at all. I hadn't even "broken" them in. Walks like a tennis shoe but the support of a boot.

Two Thumbs Up! In my opinion the best light hiking boot I've used. Lightweight, stable, no break-in needed. Gore-Tex shrugs off the rain and keeps them breathable. OUTSTANDING BOOTS!

The good: comfortable, well ventilated yet though built boot. The bad: The sole is very hard to break-in. Also there is no ankle support to speak about. The mess/leather around the ankle is just too soft. It doesn't give any better protection than say, a basketball sneaker. This almost make the boot pointless.

Amazing Boots - After plenty of research and trial and failures, I settled on these boots for a two week long, 100 mile backpacking trip across the New Mexican back country. I went for the entire trip without a single blister or hot spot, they were amazing! Simply the best boots I have ever worn, tried on, or bought. They are extremely comfortable, fitting perfectly to every curve of your foot. The gortex allows your feet to breath but at the same time, they are completely water proof. I could literally sink my feet into a stream or creak up to my ankles and pull them out completely dry. Furthermore, they are extremely durable, after over 100 mile, they still are in pristine condition. The soles are very durable and resistant to damage, unlike most boots, the rubber on the tips doesn't just fall off, peeling away the entire sole. they are worth every sent and I cannot recommend them highly enough, don't even hesitate before you buy them.

Fantastic Boot - I recently rehabbed from knee surgery and bought myself a new set of hiking boots as a reward. These boots were good to go right out of the box with no break in. More comfortable than bedroom slippers with lots of support and protection on the trail. The outside water stays out and my feet stay warm and dry, even at a Steelers football game with snow and freezing temperatures. The support in the shoe is firm and steady and the cushioning of the vibram sole helps absorb the impact of walking and keeps my repaired knee from getting shocked with each step I take. I am thinking of getting another pair in the low cut model.

I'm nearly 60 years old and have been fussy about shoe comfort since I was old enough to buy my own shoes. These boots, once they were broken in, are the most comfortable footwear in any style that I have ever worn. When I wear them, I totally forget that I have shoes on, which is what counts when judging shoe comfort. I read conflicting reports about the waterproof-ness of these boots. Two weeks ago, I had to walk in hard pouring rain for a good 30 minutes in these boots - the outside of the boots were soaked, but my feet inside were completly dry. I was amazed. I am ordering another pair when I finish writing this review. It's always good to have another pair in reserve. You never know when a shoe manufacturer will change an item just for marketing purposes. I'm stocking up.

These boots are great! Fit perfectly and good ankle support even though they're not high tops. Not too stiff. Good traction. I haven't tried getting them wet yet, though. Well worth the money for many miles of hiking.

This is my 5th pair. My last pair has over 2,500 miles on them. Still wearable and comfortable. (I walk one mile 6 days a week on a treadmill, plus my daily walking.) Live in Mohave Desert. Shoe is durable, comfortable on whatever surface: concrete, rocks, dirt, etc. Not a house shoe as sole is hard on carpet. Been nearly 5 years, caught the second to last step on stairs. Right foot landed flat. Ankle support prevented the ankle from turning outward. Foot was fine. Had minor feeling in right knee. Drove 350 miles to home that day. Heel to toe stride is straight. No turning of ankle outward, thus knee, ankle, hip, has equal support. Ground temp 125F+, shoe breathes well. Feet do not get hot, slightly warm. Does accommodate orthotic, which I must wear. Only boot or shoe that does so. Fits better with orthotic or thicker insert than one shoe comes with. Soon as you put orthotic in shoe you know if shoe size/width is right. Sent two pair shoes, not ordered from Zappos, back because of arch construction. Check by hand inside of shoe for any irregular unevenness/sole for levelness.

Excellent hiking boot for a multi day back country hike over very rocky and hilly terrain. The waterproof and breathable membrane was greatly appreciated as our hike had some very wet spots.

The only thing about the Vasque Breeze GTX XCR boot that I don't like is the top pair of lace hooks, which are narrow pointed plastic hooks, are difficult to lace and unlace. They are annoying and probably not as durable as the traditional metal hooks. I'm going to have to replace the plastic hooks with the far superior metal hooks.

I can be very taxing on my equipment and so far these boots have worked well on two separate climbs. I would say that they are very comfortable right out of the box. My only complaint would be the laces have the tendency to come untied.

I got my first pair of Vasque Hiking boots with Gore-Tex over four years ago. They remained comfortable until the end, only ever needing the laces replaced twice, and new insoles towards the end. I searched all over for a lightweight, waterproof, breathable boot with an aggressive tread, and this pair was the ticket. The day after I received them I hiked over a mile up a mountain, and had no sore spots or blisters to speak of.

After a lot of research, I went back to Vasque boots and am not disappointed. I've owned Vasque backpacking boots which were excellent, so the choice was not difficult. Got them a half size large and they fit perfectly. These boots are comfortable and dry, protecting from perspiration and precipitation. They've kept me dry and sure-footed while hiking wetlands, shallow waterways, cutting firewood in the snow and while working in hot, humid summer conditions. Not just comfortable on the move, they are excellent work shoes for standing on hard surfaces for extended periods. Good looking and easy to clean, especially when treated regularly with silicone, for looks more than waterproofing. Silicone also keeps the leather lighter when wet on the outside. Cooler than my tennis shoes in the heat and dry! Only problems are laces come untied easily and the top eyelets are difficult to lace. They should be the rounder metal ones. Still a great value.

Extremely light and nice looking. I can feel where the leather upper meets the mesh inside the boot and there is rubbing on pinkie toes and big joint of the big toe. Will definitely take some breaking in. Wore them for a 7 mile hike rated T3.5 -4. Stiff, supportive and they kept my ankle from twisting several times. Excellent shock absorbing and nice traction. I like them!
