This is a wonderful shoe. I am not a hiker, but I can't imagine a hiker would be disappointed. I actually tore my plantar fascia several years ago which had to be surgically repaired. Unfortunately this is almost like having permanent plantar fasciitis and I have to stretch every day but still I cannot wear shoes without full arch support and plenty of padding. I have been reduced to wearing very good walking shoes pretty much everywhere. Well, I live very rural area with woods and things and walking shoes really aren't the best thing for mowing lawns, raking leaves, climbing ladders and just generally working around the house and doing projects basically I was trying to get some sort of work boot as normal workboots are out of the question. These shoes came highly recommended on several sites for plantar fasciitis, so I bought these hoping they would be at least acceptable for working around the house. These boots feel like I have new feet. I cannot tell you how happy I am with them. They are a little heavy, but they are built solid and I expect them to last quite a while and hopefully maintain their arch and comfort. I have worn them from the time I got out of bed till the time I went to bed without ever taking them off, and I worked both outside and inside and made many trips to the hardware store and green house as well, and my feet felt great. I haven't gone for a walk out in the woods in years and I have even done that a few times now again. Now for someone with very bad feet to have these boots feel so good, I can only imagine someone with good feet wearing them. The sole has plenty of traction. I have been out in rain and wet wooded areas and not found any issues. They are heavy but I live in a colder climate and got theses on purpose for the insulating factors. My feet have never got cold since I have had them and I have been out in 30-40 degree weather. My feet have never got hot and sweaty either as I have worn them in 70-80 degree weather. The Gore-Tex really does a great job at keeping the sweat away. Vasque has definitely found a new customer with me. The one thing though that is kind of odd about the shoe, but I am not complaining, when I first put the shoe on it felt like I was slipping my foot into silk. It still does. Also when I fully lace the shoe up and pull it tight it feels like it isn't really on tight. However, when I stand up and walk around I realize the show is perfectly fit, it just feels odd. I realize this has something to do with the Gore-Tex lining and probably how the padding is in there but it feels like your feet are in silk slippers not a pair of hiking boots.

This boot had broken-in comfort right out of the box. Sure-footed, good support, stable (good traction, wide sole), so far dry. Would recommend to anyone going hiking. Shipping was also impressive. Ordered late on Tues afternoon, they arrived prior to noon the next day with standard shipping. Wow.

Terrific experience ordering from Zappos. Got my boots next day and over the next couple of days did 5 or 6 miles in the woods to see how they felt. I do an annual hike up Mt. LeConte in July and was nervous about doing it in new boots. On top of that I have been struggling with chronic plantar fasciitis. I was really surprised when it turned out to be the best of probably 18 or 20 trips up the mountain. No boot issues at all this trip and my feet felt better than they have in months. They did feel a little roomy compared to my previous sundowners, but I really like them so far.

These are the best hiking boots I ever bought. I'm 54. Been back packing/hiking a long time. Just did a day hike in the Grand Canyon; the one everyone tells you not to do. South Kaibob trail headed to Phantom Ranch and back out on Bright Angel. Made in back to the south rim in 9 hours with no blisters; my feet were sore, but so was my whole body... I'm old. They have good traction, are water proof, ans are comfortable. Want cheep? Go to Wal-mart. Want great shoes? Buy these.

I was looking for a black pair of boots w/a Vibram sole and Gore-Tex to wear daily during the snowy winter months. I was not specifically looking for a hiking boot, but these boots met my requirements. They were exceptionally comfortable right out of the box w/o any break in, but the ankles are a little on the stiff side if you lace them up tight, so I just keep them laced a little loose. I've only owned them for about 3 weeks, and so far I'm pleased w/my purchase; I would buy these again.

These are real solid boots. Much heavier than the "Breeze" model, but they don't tear and leak . Both models fit true to size and are comfortable so pick your poison -- extra weight or lack of durability.

This shoe is the best. I walked 6 miles right out of the box. And what can you say about Zappos? They're the best too.

I bought these after returning my Wasatch because reviews for the Bitterroot said they were better in the snow and wet surfaces as far as traction goes. And I can tell you they are right! We have had several snows back to back with some ice formation. I had to snow throw my 600 foot driveway and I usually wear Stabilicers so I do not slip, but I forgot today and these boots were totally secure and awesome! They had a more stable footbed than any other boots that I have ever worn. I highly recommend them for those of us who wear them all winter long.

My new hiking hobby quickly outgrew my Nike boots, which were really not intended for rough terrain hiking. Searching online for hikers recommendations, I came across the Vasque brand of boots, with many variations available. I read the online reviews and studied the photos and decided on the Bitteroot model. The price was quite steep. I have never paid that much for footwear in my life, but I needed some serious foot protection. My last outing on very steep terrain gave me what hikers call black toe syndrome. It's where, after several miles, your feet flatten out, and boots that you thought fit perfectly are now quite tight. Going downhill, your toes slam the front of the boot, and days later your toenails turn black. That's when I decided the price for the Bitteroot might be worth it. They have very tough laces (with a spare included), and really sturdy eyelets for a strong grip on your foot. After a three week break-in period, I gave them their real test; a fourteen mile hike in the Collins Gulf region of the Savage Gulf Natural Area in Tennessee. They were great. My feet thanked me.

Boot is as advertised. Size was spot on. One hot spot in the toe area which I will work on. Some oddities with the sole in that there are a couple of high spots which I didn't experience in previous Vasque boots. I purchased boots for weekend work on hot asphalt surfaces and found that little of the heat transferred to my feet. Slightly heavier than previous Vasque boots but that's okay. I liked the extra set of laces that came in the box in case I wasn't happy with the red laces. Overall they seem to be good boots. I plan on wearing them on a 4K plus motorcycle ride in July which will test their water and heat resistance.
