These are the nicest shoes I've ever owned. They're very comfortable, look great, easy to clean and have proved to be quite durable. Although Vans is a skate shoe brand, I've only used these as street shoes. The sole on these is the same as the Vans Numeral, and for me both of these shoes run a little large. I prefer the shoe to be a very close but comfortable fit in terms of length, which it usually is in size 13 depending on the shoe. I tried the 13 in the Numeral but they felt kind of big for how I like them to fit, so I returned them and got a pair of the Variables in size 12, which fit perfectly. I'm also glad I got them here because Zappos has an awesome return policy in which they pay the return shipping, so getting them in the wrong size the first time wasn't a problem. When these shoes wear out, I'll probably be getting another pair of these.

It's a provisional 5 stars. I love the shoes so far, and they've held up well to a couple months of occasional use. I especially love them because they're the first shoes of mine to be complimented - they get noticed and they're cool. I'm a little leery about the black fabric at the top of the heel (neoprene?) and the stitch-less construction. They're skate shoes, so the soles are a little too grippy at times on the street and they'll probably wear out faster than I'd like. But again, they're holding up well so far and they look so sweet. Now I just need to figure out a way to keep the white lower edge cleaner.

Overall, I really like these shoes. First Vans I've had since I was a skater in high school over a few decades ago, and, boy, are these better. They are very springy and have decent arch support. They look good though I'm not always keen on the white soles as they are not versatile enough for dressier occasions when I want only one travel shoe. They also seem a bit small, height-wise, as in they'll slip off easily, but they haven't yet so maybe I'm worrying too much. Overall, a good purchase and I highly recommend to anyone.

My son has had many pairs of Vans. This is the first pair we have found that just does not fit. They were quite narrow compared to other styles, especially in the toes. Across the top of his feet (where the stitching was) they felt very tight. However, from the laces to the heel they were very loose. Just an odd fit. He liked the style, though, and the materials. I think we will go back to the Vans Vulcanized.
