Was much larger than I expected. I bought four other brands in size 9, and this was at least 1/2 inch longer.

Great shoe for chubby or wide feet! The checkerboard print is very subtle, not as crisp as it looks in the picture.

Wow! What a great shoes for busy kids and moms! 1) One word: Velcro. So easy to get on and off. (2) Easy to get clean! The black with multi-colored hearts version is a synthetic leather-like material (it could be leather, doesn't quite feel like it), a wet wash cloth wipes it clean. The rubber toe takes a few swipes with a soapy sponge and voila! Like-new shoes. (A must for our rough-and-tumble little lady). (3) Cute, a little edgy, and wearable with everything other than the really fancy stuff. They are lasting well as everyday shoes that see hours of daily outdoor play. (I wouldn't mind a few extra layers of rubber on that toe!) There was a few-day break in period as the ankles were a little stiff. Other than that, this is a winning shoe, and when these wear out, we're looking forward to another pair with a new design! Note: I find Vans run a little large, but I still recommend getting your child's regular size. And as always, Zappos rocks in selection, shipping, and customer service.
I'd also recommend: Merrell kids

Totally worth it! I love this shoe. It's priced well and totally comes in totally cool patterns/colors. Hardly any break-in necessary. Always a full size bigger than marked.
I'd also recommend: Converse
