A wider shoe would have been preferable. Under the circumstance the one you sent will make do. Not withstanding the above I find the Tretorn is still the best for its intended purpose.

Classic - Still one of the best looking classic casual shoes. And comfortable. They are a little narrow for a wide foot but still great shoes.

World's best canvas shoe - I've worn this shoe for nearly 30 years. Stocked up on them when they were unavailable for a time. Only shoe I've ever mail-ordered, because they feel comfortable even when they're new. They remind me of the soft feel of moccasins, but tough enough for sports, and I'm a 285lb bodybuilder who picks up a bar with 765 lbs while wearing them. Sweet shoe.

I'm a child of the 80's and love Tretorns. These feel just like they did back then - very comfortable. If you're considering getting them from Zappos, keep this in mind: 1. These shoes aren't white. They're off-white. 2. The plastic gullwing logo on the side IS pure white. 3. The stitched trim that outlines the tongue, the lace well, and the "v" toe IS also pure white. If you look at them in indoor light, you can't tell the difference, but if you go outside and look down at them, you'll notice a big difference. It doesn't look bad per-se. Just odd. And definitely not what they looked like back in the day. Now, here's what's really odd: before I knew Zappos carried these shoes, I bought some online from the Tretorn website. When they arrived, I noticed... 1. They are pure white all over. 2. The gullwing logo is leather, not plastic. 3. They're made from a distinctly heavier canvas than the ones I got from Zappos. 4. They're not as comfortable as the ones I got from Zappos. I ended up keeping both pair. Both look and feel great. Not totally sure why there's a difference, but I like them so much I really don't care. Just be advised, there is a difference. If you get them from Tretorn, they'll look like they did in the 80's. If you get them from Zappos, they'll feel like they did in the 80's.

About Tretorn
The company's association with life on and off court rapidly created something of a cult following surrounding the brand, a status which was firmly secured when Wimbledon winners took to the grass in Tretorn in the 1970s. Inspired by the high profile and success of the brand, Tretorn's canvas and leather Nylites were the only shoe in which to be seen wearing on North American campuses throughout the 1980s. Lean and understated, the Tretorn sneaker was the first luxury sports shoe on the market.
Tretorn’s expertise in rubber-made products demonstrates a consistent commitment to quality and brand over hype, offering a collection most appreciated by those with a practical sensibility and a lifestyle largely enjoyed outside. Because Tretorn celebrates a lifestyle, largely lived outside, Tretorn ensures that labor is not exploited and the production methods are continuously revised for the good of the consumers and the environment. This commitment to sustainability and safe products is embodied in their PVC-Free policy for all of Tretorn men's shoes and Tretorn women's shoes. It is a business practice for which Tretorn is widely recognized as industry leaders.

Always a Classic! I really remember these shoes from the late 70's and they still look and fit the same. They have a simple classic elegance and (in my opinion) look great with Levis 501's. They are very flexible and light and are comfortable without socks. The only con with these shoes is that the insoles are as flat as a board. I really need arch support with my shoes so I added some 3/4 length insoles - voila instant support. These shoes run very true to size or maybe even slightly large. So if you normally wear a size 9, then order a size 9! Without socks and depending on your foot build, one might even need an 8.5. With Zappos great service and blindingly fast shipping getting the correct size will be a breeze!
Brands I'd also recommend: Adidas Italia 74

They were shoes that I wore in high school and was so glad to find them still being made. They are very comfortable which is something hard for me to find since having surgery on one of my feet.

Not the Tretorns I remember - I love the look of this shoe but am disappointed with the quality/feel. I used to love these growing up but remember a padded heel and terry cloth lining. These do not have a comfortable lining for use without socks. Zappos delivery was amazing though! I was thrilled to receive them the day I after I ordered them!

Blast from the past. This is a super-comfortable tennis shoe that's been my favorite since it first appeared on the scene in the late 1960s. I like it because it doesn't look like a "clown shoe". It’s also washable.

Reviewer from Mississippi - I love my Tretorns. I have been wearing them for 19 years. I think they work really well with jeans, khakis, shorts or sweats. They are by far the best looking and most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. The solid white tretorns or the ones with navy trim are great, but I would like to see tretorns made in other trim colors. Possibly in lighter to medium blues or even some plaids. The norm is great, but a change in color would be nice. As long as tretorn continues to make such an outstanding product I will continue buying and wearing them with pride.

The classic tennis shoe, even mentioned in The Official Preppy Handbook. Lightweight and comfortable, with great traction on the court.

Where did the quality go? I just ordered 2 pair of these Tretorn Canvas Tennis shoe's and I sent them back the next day. I have worn these same shoes for years and they were made so nice and were comfortable. The last 2 pair were like a completely different brand. They were made so cheap. The fabric was so thin, no support at all. They felt like a $10.00 pair of shoes. Now I don't know what to do as no one makes a nice canvas sneaker.
Brands I'd also recommend: I have no idea

Ridiculously excellent customer service! All web retailers should take notes. Ordered shoes, they were too small, called back, the next size up was shipped without charging my account. I printed prepaid label to return original pair and dropped off at a "MailBox" store. No charge for ANY of the shipping. Promised 5-10 days, received in TWO, received replacement pair in TWO....The only place to shop for shoes. Now I am very opinionated when dealing with other online retailers.... No online retailer that I have ever dealt with made it so easy and was so accommodating. They are similar to Lands End but I must say, they even have the edge because of the free shipping and extremely quick delivery. They have done a "Disney" in that they seems to always exceed my expectation!

Comfortable, but not the same shoes from the 1980s. They seem to lack the padding and feel they used to have. Almost like a cheap imitation.

I fully agree with Linda T. I've worn Tretorns for decades. But the current owners (Puma?) have opted to cheapen the material, remove the padding and even eliminated the strip that keeps the laces in place. What was once a great shoe, is now a cheap knockoff. I've been searching (in vain) for anyone selling the originals. I have one left. I never wear it; it's become a collector's item. Shame on the manufacturer for ruining a great shoe.

I’ve known of Tretorn for years and have always heard great things about this classic tennis shoe. I read several reviews before buying these shoes saying that they were not conformable and felt cheaply made, I didn’t take those reviews seriously and now wish I had. After wearing them for almost a month, they are starting to hurt and I need to buy insoles. They have very little support and not very comfortable. The aesthetic design is great, but I find myself reaching for my old Sauconys instead. There are lots of great looking shoes to spend your money on before these. I won’t be buying any Tretorns again.

I wore these shoes for a week straight after I ordered them and just used them to walk around in. I found the stitching on the seam near the laces ripping. So disappointed as I really like the style and comfort.

Before purchasing this shoe, I read the numerous reviews listed here. I was a little scared because of some reviews stating this shoe is not comfortable. I can tell you, this is the most comfortable shoe I have worn in years!! Also, I love the look of this shoe.
