Just what I was looking for... A great lightweight yet truly waterproof jacket without too many bells and whistles. True to size, though perhaps slightly large. I have had my previous North Face jacket through ten years of constant wear and it still looks brand new -- I suspect that this jacket will do the same. Well worth the investment! And as usual, Zappos offered amazing service. I ordered this jacket on Tuesday night and the next afternoon it was on my doorstep. Incredible.
Brands I'd also recommend: North Face Boulevard Jacket, Hunter boots

Not as comfortable as I'd like for the price. I've been looking for a new rain jacket and was very pleased with the selection on Zappos. I ordered both the North Face Venture Parka and the Sierra Designs Cyclone Parka to compare. I had some specific criteria, I needed something waterproof, yet lightweight and breathable. I live in Southwest Louisiana, so a lined or insulated jacket just isn't comfortable. I also wanted a longer, "parka" length jacket for extra coverage in the rain. The Venture Parka was very lightweight (i.e. thin) and breathable, and the pit zips were a nice feature. The hood was quite close fitting, provided extremely good coverage (especially for the forehead and eyes) while allowing a full field of view, and felt secure even without cinching. Having bought North Face products before I am sure that the jacket would wear well and last for years. Unfortunately, the Venture Parka had some comfort issues that made it not worth the price for me. First, it was not quite long enough. I thought the Venture Parka was a little too short to be considered a "parka" length jacket. Second, the zipper on the parka is a very large plastic zipper, not the standard size metal zippers used for clothing. This meant that the zipper area was very stiff, so if I moved around or sat down the jacket tended to want to stay in the "standing position" and did not flex with my body. Also the zipper was not a 2 way zipper. Maybe the zipper relaxes after a while, but for me it made the jacket pretty uncomfortable. The third issue I had was with the hood, which IS the collar of the jacket. This means that there is not a separate collar that you can zip up independently, and you cannot roll the hood and store it when you are not using it. Once I zipped the Venture Parka all the way up I found the neck opening to be very tight, SO tight that I couldn't comfortably wear the jacket zipped up without the hood on my head. Also, when zipped up, the top of the zipper almost completely covered my mouth (and I have a fairly long, very slender neck). This may be for added protection, but I found it annoying and a little claustrophobic. I am 5'6" 110 lbs. and ordered an XS, which might account for the neck issues, however had I ordered a S the jacket would have swallowed me in the torso. Even with the XS there was room to layer a light sweater underneath. Ultimately I sent the Venture Parka back and kept the Sierra Designs Cyclone (which has all the same features AND a separate collar, roll up hood, 2-way zipper, and interior pockets), even though the hood on the Venture gave better coverage. I just couldn't justify paying a premium for a jacket that wasn't completely comfortable.
Brands I'd also recommend: Sierra Designs Cyclone Parka

I love this jacket. I love the added length and it’s roomy enough to add a fleece underneath on cooler wet days. I bought a pair of Venture pants to match and together they keep me nice and dry.

I own many items from The North Face, and have never been disappointed. I like the Venture Parka better than the Venture Jacket (which I also own), because it is longer and less boxy. This will be a great running and everyday jacket. I can't seem to have enough rain jackets as I live in the Pacific Northwest. Thanks Zappos for the next day shipping! :-)

I had bought this jacket for my sister. She has a North Face coat in XS so I got her this rain parka in XS as well thinking it would be fine. Wrong. This parka runs small and was too tight all around so please make sure to size up. Also, it's really not too long and hit slightly above the hip so not as much coverage provided as the photos of the models made it seem. Oh, and last thing...the material - this felt like a poncho shaped like a parka. I didn't think it was worth the price. I'll be returning this rain parka in search of a different one for her.

I am disappointed with this jacket. I looked forward to wearing it after I received it. The first rainfall we had here, I pulled it out and as I slipped it on and started to leave the house in it I realized it made an annoying swishing sound and felt like I was wearing a plastic bag. I was very disappointed. If the fabric was a little softer it would not make this sound. Sorry North Face, but I gotta send this back!

I love this jacket. I love the extra length versus the venture jacket (which I also own). I am 6 feet tall so the parka is a better fit for me. I bought an XL and there is enough room to layer a fleece jacket on cooler days. I also have matching Venture pants which nicely complement the Venture parka or Venture jacket for that matter.
Brands I'd also recommend: patagonia, marmot,
