After much contemplation I bought these in the blue color. It looks great! I have worn them on 4 hikes so far, usually I hike anywhere from 3-8 miles at a time. These boots have not disappointed! I am usually a 10.5 in shoes, which was not available so I got the size 11. It is a little roomy in the toe box, but I can imagine that I wouldn't want it to be tight while going down a mountain. I'm thinking of replacing the insole with one of my own since it does not provide much cushion. The tongue does not bother me at all like others had said. I wear a pair of hiking socks and it provides a good cushion so the tongue does not rub against my foot. These are completely 100% waterproof! I sloshed through the mud in the sleet and rain and my socks were dry! My only problem is the laces keep coming loose and/or untied during vigorous movement. I'm thinking of getting thicker ones with better grip. Buy these boots!

These shoes have good arch support.Width is just right if you have slightly wider feet than normal. They are breathable but keep feet warm when needed. I would buy them again

I work in a plant nursery and am on my feet and in the dirt a lot. I need a pair of shoes that are waterproof, mud-proof, and comfortable. These shoes are all three! I've walked through countless mud puddles and didn't end up with wet socks, so nice! They are comfortable, just like a good pair of tennis shoes.

This is my third pair of North Face shoes and they are wonderful. The fit is perfect and they are so comfortable. I walk every day with my dog, Toby and these shoes are perfect for those dewey mornings! Thanks North Face!

Short tongue/major discomfort! I thought, at first, that these sneaks felt perfect in size & comfort when I tried them on. After having worn them for a few days of moderate walking, I've encountered severe discomfort with the poorly designed tongue. It's too short and, therefore, digs into the crook of the foot & leg. It's not the typical length or nicely padded like other hiking sneaks I've worn. I've tried unlacing the top 2 pairs of lace holes & while this helps a bit, the sneaks then become too loose. What could have been a good sneaker is a total loss of money. I have a size 8 foot & there's nothing irregular about my feet or body set. I truly hoped this would be a great sneaker (since I walk/hike often).

Additional Brand Information

In 1966, two hiking enthusiasts founded a small mountaineering retail store in the heart of San Francisco's North Beach. The company soon became known as The North Face, a retailer of high-performance climbing and backpacking equipment. (The name was selected because in the Northern Hemisphere, the north face of a mountain is generally the coldest, iciest and most formidable to climb.) In 1968, The North Face began designing and manufacturing its own brand of high-performance mountaineering apparel and equipment, and in the early 1980s, extreme skiwear was added to the product offering. By the end of the decade, The North Face became the only supplier in the United States to offer a comprehensive collection of high-performance outerwear, skiwear, sleeping bags, packs and tents.

Using all types of proprietary technology, TNF provides The North Face jackets, The North Face clothes, The North Face pants, The North Face bags and The North Face shoes with quality, durability, and above all else, functionality. Throughout the years, The North Face jacket and outerwear division has set the standard in the industry. With styles such as The North Face Denali jacket and vest, The North Face Apex Bionic jackets, and The North Face Nupste jackets, The North Face jackets proves time and time again that they are at the forefront of high-performance apparel.

Their dedication to footwear is no different. With the different categories of trail running, hiking, mountaineering, and most recently ultra running, The North Face shoes division continues to raise the bar for innovation and quality in their shoes. Using proven technology such as Gore-Tex® and Gore-Tex® XCR®, their insulated footwear can sustain use in low, sub-zero temperatures, and with the innovative Boa® technology, users can have a precise fit with the ability to adjust quickly and on the fly. All features that make The North Face shoes a leader in the technical footwear arena.

The North Face’s dedication to quality can also be seen in their gear and equipment. The North Face sleeping bags with a high fill of goose down for warmth and multiple lengths. The North Face daypacks and expedition packs such as the Recon and Jester that are rugged, durable, and can hold all you gear. The North Face tents that will withstand extreme temperatures on Everest and Mt. Rainier. If you have a desire to test the limits, The North Face equipment will help you on your adventure.

Completely waterproof and looks like sneakers - I used these shoes to hike through Iguazu Falls in Argentina. It rained the whole first day and we hiked through waterfalls. My feet were not wet at all. I could not believe it. Others had wet feet and mine were completely dry. They were also very comfortable. I walked all over Iguazu, Mendoza, and Buenos Aires in the shoes and my feet never hurt. Really great shoes. I always get my walking/running shoes in one half size bigger, so I got the 8 and they were great. I would normally wear a 7.5.

Awesome AWESOME shoe! I am a hiker in the mountains of Maine and New Hampshire. I just bought these after my Merrells were d/c. It has been pouring rain here for 2 weeks, and all the trails were practically flowing streams. I STAYED DRY! No water AT all! Great support, great fit, and light! Highly recommend! I do however, suggest you buy a color that does not show dirt as much, I bought the white/pink, and they are FILTHY, even after washing!

Disappointed. These look nice and are very waterproof. However after wearing once, it has so little arch support, I hurt my foot. It feels like plantar fasciitis is coming back. I need more supportive shoes than this.

Lightweight, waterproof, and looks great! I'm tired of women's athletic shoes that are baby blue and pink, so I really appreciated the fact that this North Face shoe comes in outdoorsy colors. I got the orange one. The shoe itself is very light and waterproof. I was recently caught in a downpour and my socks weren't even wet.

I really love these shoes! They look just as nice as I hoped they would. The multi-view photos are excellent depictions, but they're not quite as bright blue, but more of a gray-blue which is much nicer. These are so comfortable and well made. I wanted a sneaker, but also a shoe capable of hiking in rain or shine. I bought them for an upcoming trip to Alaska. They should do great with either shorts or jeans. And, as always, the shipping was speedy!

These shoes were comfortable straight out of the box. I am usually a 6.5 or 7, and I have a 7 in these. I would say they run 1/2 a size small. I am planning to wear these for my upcoming hikes!

Good for uneven trails - Stable shoe for rocky wet trails. Runs half size small, I take a size 7 and had to return it for a 7.5. Shoe is a little stiff compared to a tennis shoe but not uncomfortably so. I also tried the Merrell Chameleon Gore-Tex but it rolled my ankle on uneven surfaces. I love Merrell usually but this particular shoe was not good for trails with rocks. The North Face Hedgehog fit the bill.

Good shoe for long hikes - I bought these shoes for a trip to Yosemite and was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to break them in (1 day) and how waterproof they were, even in the snow. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a comfortable and well designed hiking shoe.

Love, love, love these shoes. Bought these last year for a camping trip/vacation to the Rockies. They were terrific and very comfy the whole time. I was caught in a downpour and have to say they aren’t totally waterproof in that situation, but otherwise, they’re awesome. I love the cushion in them and will certainly look for another pair when these wear out. I did order a 1/2 size larger than I normally wear because my foot in wide at the bottom. Highly recommend!

North Face hiking shoes - This is an exceptional shoe in many ways: I had to buy them last minute for a trip and thus I had no break in period at all. The shoes are light weight, attractive, comfortable and very functional. I watched the other hikers slip and slide on the side of the mountain in the mud while I never did ...not once! Great find and the other hikers wanted to know where I had found them.

Purchased these online late yesterday afternoon. Even though I expected the shipping to take 4-5 days (standard shipping), I received the shoes today! Fabulous! Zappos customer service is always great! Love the shoes; this is my second pair of them. They hold up amazingly well both in looks and comfort (for those of you who consider yourselves hard on your shoes). I've shown my old pair no mercy in all seasons in upstate New York. Very waterproof. The only drawback to this shoe is the arch support is only moderate. I usually use inserts to increase the arch support just a bit. (I've found other brands that are said to have "excellent arch support" to be just too much for me, then again the ones that say "no arch support" don't work either!) Just can't find anything that suits me "as is". If you're looking for moderate arch support these will probably work for you. Oh yeah, if your feet tend to pronate inward, these are the shoes for you! One of the few brands I've found that correct this problem for me.

Most excellent - I read the reviews and found them to be accurate... these shoes were perfect from the start... walking, working no matter, no break in time... I am going to order in a different color.

GREAT SHOES!!... nothing else to say... I LOVE THIS SHOE! I was looking for a Gore-Tex shoe for my trip to Sarawak-Borneo Forest, last December. After reading lots of reviews from others here, I decided to buy this shoe. And I was so thrilled that I bought this shoe. In the mud and very wet condition of Mulu's cave, this shoe had kept my feet dry. One time when we got off the boat, I was trying to walk on the tree branch and I fell off to the water about couple inches deep. If I weren't wearing this shoe, my feet would have been soaking wet and it would have been uncomfortable to have my feet wet and soggy while exploring the cave. To sum it up, overall, it looks great. I bought the Grey with yellow accent (love that color!). It's true to the size. I'm wearing size 7.5 and I ordered the same size. The shoelace needs to be tied twice though; otherwise, it loosens up easily. The shoe is very comfortable and very light. But best of all, it keeps your feet dry all the time (I've tested :-). Definitely recommended for those of you who are looking to keep your feet dry in a wet condition.

I bought these to wear in a production of the sound of music - the party scene. They are fab. I find most formal shoes run a bit small, and these are no exception. I got an 8.5M and I usually wear an 8. But the ankle strap keeps them on nicely, even if it is a bit stiff. But they look fab. I’ll also wear them with dark jeans and a fancy shirt.
