I had the Ultra TR and really liked them. They fit my "low foot volume" feet wonderfully but still had a spacious toe box. They looked sharp and I loved the grippy, flexible sole and breathable upper. Tragically they were destroyed in an airport incident days before a hiking trip to Acadia. I bought these Ultra TR IIs assuming the last would be the same and that the color and materials had just been slightly updated. I was wrong. This is a completely different shoe that does not work for me and feels/looks cheap when compared to the original. The toe box is cramped. The mesh is cheap, ugly in person and doesn't breathe well. The arch support is oddly far forward, the plastic at the end of the toe comes back enough to rub uncomfortably on the top of the foot. The sole is weirdly rigid and the rubber is not very grippy. Even the laces seem kind of cheap (although they do come with a flat nylon style in addition to what is pictured). In short, these are terrible (for me). Incidentally, I did reach out to The North Face about my thoughts on the shoe, hoping they would offer to replace them with an alternative and they made it clear they do not stand behind products purchased from a third party that do not have manufacturing defects. Pity.

I'd also recommend: I've enjoyed New Balance in the past and will try them again.
