Awesome backpack - super comfortable, and a great combination of staying sleek but still having a lot of storage. I thought I would get a little more storage out of it. It is tough to make it work as the sole bag for a trip longer than a day or two, but is great for short trips, and is my everyday bag for work.

This is a beautiful back pack with lots of wonderful pockets and a good-sized laptop compartment. As great as this backpack is, I am going to have to return it. It is just too heavy! Even when I only have one book, notebook, and some pens, I feel like I am carrying so much more weight. I am very disappointed, as I love the quality, color, and compartments. If weight is not an issue, I highly recommend this back pack.

This was a gift to my cousin and he loves it. The back has multi-functionality and works well for college students.

I must have shopped at least 7 laptop backpacks before deciding on the North Face Surge II. In the end it came down to quality, brand reputation, capacity, and design. Because of my narrower shoulders I wanted strap support across my chest to keep straps from slipping off, and they needed to be comfortable as well. The North Face was comfortable on my back and the bottom and top hand straps were very convenient when handling the pack off my back. Very well designed interior for pens, tablets, magazines, clothing articles, cameras and perfect for my 15" MacBook Pro with accessories. Lots of pockets and on the exterior sides for water bottles. Just great for airline travel. Hardly noticed it as we walked Disney World for 3 days.

This is a great backpack, I'm a college student so I needed something that would hold everything. I asked my friends and they said this one was the best. And it is. Definitely worth the money, plus it's a safe home for my laptop.

I was looking for a bag that could hold all if my it equipment comfortably. This was it! This bag comfortably holds my 15 inch Macbook pro, a netbook, various cables, a notepad, a portable wireless access point, antenna, chargers, etc. and two drinks. It still has space for more! Very happy with this purchase!

I bought this back pack for my 19 yr. old son who's in college. He also brought it along on a vacation to Mexico where he used as a carry on and brought it on all day excursions. He loves he comfort and durability as well as the knowing his laptop is secure. Love it!

This pack is light & has plenty of compartments to store tons of little things all over it. It is not a very large pack. It will not hold a huge laptop and a bunch of books happily. It will hold a notebook & a few books fine. I use it for travel & am very happy with it. It looks awesome and it is very comfortable.

Extremely well made bag. I have never been a huge fan of TNF bags (but I really like their other products) but this one is awesome. Very well organized, tons of little pockets. The front pocket is neat and easily accessible. You don't have to unzip both zippers to access it...just unzip one side and slide your hand inside the bag. Very comfortable, even the top handle seems a little padded. Easily fit a 15.6" laptop, plenty of space in the middle section. The compression straps help to keep this bag small. This is the ultimate work/urban backpack. Could be used for hiking but doesn't have a bladder for water (if you really like water systems). However, it has 2 water pockets on the side for bottles. Highly recommended!

My son, a sophomore could not be happier. His lap top goes in and there are channels of cushioning to keep it from digging into his back. Despite it being fully loaded it seems lighter when on his back because of the position. The blue and orange color looks sharp, and makes it easy to locate in a "sea" of bags. He loves all the compartments so he can designate items for special pockets and know they are there instead of "lost in a black hole."

So far so good. Not sure it would last more 2 years, but it is very light and very comfortable. I'm using it to replace my 10 year old Victorinox Web 2.0, which doesn't even exist anymore.

It took a few backpacks, but I finally found the one for me. I can fit my 15 inch MBP in the laptop slot, a few books or binders or iPad in the main pocket, and I still have room for power cables, cords etc. There are plenty of pockets inside and out for ample organization and two water bottle slots on each side. Love this bag! North Face has won me back from Timbuk2!

I really like this bag. I bought to commute on my motorcycle and am happy with the amount of space and different compartments that it contains. The bag itself is a little on the heavy side when empty, but you don't really notice when the bag is on. One thing that did strike me about the slate colored bag is that the darker color pictured looks like it's black when the whole bag is actually a medium gray.

This is the only pack I will ever own. Hopefully you will find this helpful because I am going to be very specific about the laptops I pack (not in tandem). For work I lug around a Lenovo ThinkPad T400 15 with 6-cell battery and it slips right in with room to spare for a notepad, magazine, etc. Now, this is where it gets tricky and I realize it's a personal choice. I also use the Surge M to carry my Sony VAIO F Series 16.4 (on the plump side) and I have to carefully slide it in to avoid the zipper. The fit is snug, not tight, since you can slide the unit in and out.

I just received this backpack as a gift. I am a Phd student and I needed something to carry loads of books and my laptop. It's perfect. I was first given the women's one, but I sent it back as the men's feels better and is a bit bigger. I am 5'7 and 125 if that helps. Overall, I think this is a terrific bag!
