I bought these boots right in time to wear in the Arctic Vortex that was recently covering most of the US. And they were great! I have pretty bad circulation most of the time and these shoes kept my feet comfortably warm even in -10F. I didn't even wear thick socks, just some everyday Smartwool socks, which is good because they were pretty snug. I usually wear a 7 and occasionally wear a 7.5 so I got a 7.5. I should have probably gotten an 8. I recommend ordering up by half or a whole size. They are great for walking. I didn't break them in before wearing them on a 4 mile city walk. The traction is great. My husband and I agree that they are very handsome boots. My only wish is that this boot was vegan. Also the laces aren't quite long enough which is a pretty big oversight on North Face's part. I was barely able to tie them in a double knot, no bows happening with these laces!

They are not waterproof. Let me repeat: They are not waterproof. I live in Ithaca (Upstate New York) and they cannot handle the slush on the ground. I was very frustrated with them, enough to buy a different pair of boots.

I don't usually write reviews, but I was really impressed with this shoe. I wanted to give it five stars in everything but I will explain as to why I didn't in details below. But, if you don't want to read the details, I will say that these shoes are very wonderful once you break them in and you will not regret it -- just be patient and don't judge them right away at first wear. Be sure to buy a half size up if you wear heavy weight socks, like I do. The good stuff: This the off-road SUV of snow boots -- very sturdy and reliable. I live just outside Chicago and we had several feet of snowfall this year and weather than dove way below sub zero. They have great insulation in the foot well. They also have a very thick rubber sole which means that there is no chance that the sole will freeze (I've found even if a shoe has great insulation but a crappy sole your feet stay cold. the sole is what should also be keeping a thick barrier from the cold). The other two nice features is that the sole has extra sticky grip and treads. It has also ankle support in the shoe itself. So you can kind of be as reckless as you want when dealing with severe ice. The sole is also slightly cushioned. Not a whole lot, but enough to keep in warmth and be comfortable- if you want full-on arch support you should buy insoles or another boot. At the back of the shoe (outside) there is a small little protruding ridge that helps you get them off (when using the toe to ankle method of slipping them off). The tongue also has nice water-proof gussets, so you can keep them loose without worrying about heat loss or snow getting inside. There's also enough space in the boot when its semi loose to stuff pants into it. Also, they are pretty deceiving for a heavy duty shoe, these are fairly lightweight. On a personal note, I'm not super girly so I liked that the colors were rugged but still do look stylish. The leather is especially beautiful. Things to keep in mind when first wearing them: at first wear I was extremely unhappy with them. They seemed very stiff and hard to get on. The more I walked around with them the back of the fabric on the back of my ankle seemed to fold inward to the point where it didn't hurt, but annoyed me. I suspected it could be one of two things: defect in the product/ already been used before/ I bought a size too large (half size up). Truthfully, I returned them and got the same pair, same size and brand new, and it had the same issue. I concluded it is a size issue - you probably won't have to break them in if you get your actual size. But I wore them in for about a week and the problem has resolved. I also loosened them a lot so issues with slipping them on and off is non-existent. I did give it four stars in comfort but I didn't because of the break in period. But I give them five stars definitely now that I've broken them in. Overall, these are great boots if you give them a chance. I have used them every day since I gave them a chance and they are now perfect. I think if you live in a place that doesn't snow, this might not be a great boot for you since it seems to be designed to be in severe elements. I recommend this shoe to anyone who does live in severe winter elements.

Crazy difficult to get on, but comfy once you finally do. Ordered these boots in my usual size (8 1/2). I had to loosen the laces all the way down and then push hard to get my foot in the boot. Just as hard to get off. Felt really comfy once I finally got them on. Plenty of room in the toe box, comfortably snug on the calf, seemed warm enough, and LOVE how they look. Unfortunately, I need boots that I can slip on and off easily. Perhaps they would loosen up over time, though? Don't want to make that gamble when I'm paying this much. Note that the brown has a yellow lining. I love yellow so I was fine with it, but didn't notice when I ordered. It is completely yellow (with a hint of green) and does show slightly when the boots are on.

This is the first review I have ever felt compelled to write. These boots are amazing. Warm, great traction on icy streets, and so cute! They were a little clunky to drive in a first, but I quickly got used to them. I usually wear a size 8, but based on the prior reviews I bought an 8.5...and they fit perfect. Roomy with regular socks, not too tight with thick socks. As I said, they are very warm, and very comfortable. I absolutely love these boots, and plan to wear them for may more Chicago winters to come.
