Good Hiking Shoe - While in Yosemite I purchased this shoe. Because the shoes I was hiking in I wore down the tread and kept slipping and sliding. After purchasing this shoe no more slipping on loose gravel or pine needles. GOOD grip for hiking, climbing on granite boulders, comfortable no blisters but you do have to adjust the tongue to find a comfortable position on the top of your foot. I plan on taking them hiking in Zion and Bryce Canyon in a week.

The shoes were comfortable overall, but the tongue was uncomfortable and felt bunched up and awkward when wearing them. But I have several other pairs of North Face shoes that I love without the tongue problem.

Great Shoe!!! I wore this shoe on a two hour hike after breaking in for a couple hours. It felt great, no blisters or foot/leg pain. The shoe provided great traction, especially on a tough downhill that was steep and mostly soft dirt.

Great shoes - These shoes are very comfortable right out of the box. They have excellent grip and the Gore-Tex lining works well, keeping my feet dry but cool.

Additional Brand Information

In 1966, two hiking enthusiasts founded a small mountaineering retail store in the heart of San Francisco's North Beach. The company soon became known as The North Face, a retailer of high-performance climbing and backpacking equipment. (The name was selected because in the Northern Hemisphere, the north face of a mountain is generally the coldest, iciest and most formidable to climb.) In 1968, The North Face began designing and manufacturing its own brand of high-performance mountaineering apparel and equipment, and in the early 1980s, extreme skiwear was added to the product offering. By the end of the decade, The North Face became the only supplier in the United States to offer a comprehensive collection of high-performance outerwear, skiwear, sleeping bags, packs and tents.

Using all types of proprietary technology, TNF provides The North Face jackets, The North Face clothes, The North Face pants, The North Face bags and The North Face shoes with quality, durability, and above all else, functionality. Throughout the years, The North Face jacket and outerwear division has set the standard in the industry. With styles such as The North Face Denali jacket and vest, The North Face Apex Bionic jackets, and The North Face Nupste jackets, The North Face jackets proves time and time again that they are at the forefront of high-performance apparel.

Their dedication to footwear is no different. With the different categories of trail running, hiking, mountaineering, and most recently ultra running, The North Face shoes division continues to raise the bar for innovation and quality in their shoes. Using proven technology such as Gore-Tex® and Gore-Tex® XCR®, their insulated footwear can sustain use in low, sub-zero temperatures, and with the innovative Boa® technology, users can have a precise fit with the ability to adjust quickly and on the fly. All features that make The North Face shoes a leader in the technical footwear arena.

The North Face’s dedication to quality can also be seen in their gear and equipment. The North Face sleeping bags with a high fill of goose down for warmth and multiple lengths. The North Face daypacks and expedition packs such as the Recon and Jester that are rugged, durable, and can hold all you gear. The North Face tents that will withstand extreme temperatures on Everest and Mt. Rainier. If you have a desire to test the limits, The North Face equipment will help you on your adventure.

A Great Shoe - These shoes are so comfortable to walk around town in or to do a short day hike. They have great traction in wet weather.

Comfort right off the bat - Great look and feel from the start. Wearing them to hike the Grand Canyon in a few weeks - so little time to break them in - but I think they'll be great!

Tongue is an issue - This shoe would be very comfortable except for the awkward tongue fitting. I had to wear the laces tied very loosely otherwise the rigid tongue felt like it was cutting into my skin. Otherwise, I wore these shoes for a week of hiking in the Blue Ridge area without any blisters.

Great shoe, very comfortable and cute - Bought these for a 6-mile backpacking hike. They fit really well -- comfortable, and no blisters in 2 days of hiking. I often have trouble with hiking shoes with high backs that go too far up my ankle, but had no problem with these due to their cut. Very light, and very comfortable. Good grip. While my husband complained his boots were hot in the 85 degree weather, these shoes kept my feet cool. Haven't tested the waterproof aspect of them yet. They're really attractive shoes, too - a nice perk. I'm usually between an 8.5 and a 9, and got the 9, which worked perfectly with hiking socks. Highly recommend.

Good Shoes - These shoes were good, except they aren't exactly hiking boots - more like stiff running shoes. I feel comfortable wearing them to spin class and just walking around the city. After about 3 hours of hiking, my feet fell asleep! They look fantastic though.

Great Shoe - I chose this shoe after going through about 10-15 try ons. It had the right combo of padding and support and tread to get me comfortably over a 12,500 foot pass and 11 mile hike in Colorado. I had bruised the ball of my foot training in older shoes and these were the only ones that gave me comfort to be able to do the hike. Gortex was a plus as it rained and everyone else was sloshing in their shoes and I was comfy and dry. Tread saved me on the scree at the top. Great shoe.

Great shoe! Went hiking for the first time in the Sierra Nevada’s...didn't have time to break the shoe in at all and was totally comfortable during the entire 30 mile hike! A great buy.

Great shoe - This shoe had absolutely no break-in time. Comfortable from moment one. Walk a few miles per day. Size/fit is on the money. Even had a little room for my gel arch supports (have plantar fasciitis). Great all around shoe. PS...Love them so much, have 2 pairs.

Don't hesitate – buy them. I hike a lot on uneven terrain. I am so glad that I purchased the North Face Hedgehog XCR’s. They are really attractive and they provide great traction on all terrains. I received them the day after I ordered them. Thanks Zappos!

So-so - I think I'm the only negative review here, so I tried to make these shoes work, but for me they just didn't. I often have the problem that my foot size is in between sizes, so the 8.5s were a little small and the 9s a little big, but I solved that by wearing thicker socks. My chief complaint is that the insoles were hard on my feet. After a day of walking I felt like I'd been wearing my dress shoes at work, that have little support--the bottoms of my feet hurt. I wish the insoles had thicker padding. Getting an insert insole may help. I did, however, love how they looked! I had the blue pair and it was a really nice color.

Fantastic shoe, except... I love this shoe. The day I broke them in I hiked 10 miles. The next day I hiked 12 miles. They are a nice, light shoe. Unfortunately, the tongue is attached to the shoe and tends to bunch up, causing it to rub on the top of my foot. After the second day of hiking, I had rather large bumps on the tops of my feet. I love this shoe, but I may have to return them simply because of the tongue design.

North Face - Purchased a pair for my husband and a pair for me. We're going on a two-week tour, and wanted comfy, airy shoes. Just wearing them about the house and neighborhood, I can tell we made a good choice. One of mine has a short tongue in the right shoe. I have no doubt that Zappos will replace it. Zappos is the greatest shoe store ever! I shop at the malls, but always buy my shoes on Zappos!

Great for hikes. They are exactly what I was looking for in a light hiking shoe. As is in most shoes, they could use a little more arch support, but overall I really like them. Nice looking shoe.

Great Shoes!! I wore these for "daily" use to get my feet used to them and break them in. No need to do this, they are so comfortable I can't wait to use them this summer in Oregon!!

Cute, versatile for hiking, walking - These shoes are great b/c they have enough grip in the treads to hike pretty rough trails, but still feel like a solid sneaker. I took them on three hikes in a 3-day period, and didn't get any blisters. However, the reason I give them 3 stars for comfort is one that other reviewers have mentioned--the tongue is oddly placed - even with medium weight hiking socks it presses against the top of my foot and is pretty painful. Fiddling with it helps a little... I'm hoping this just breaks in a little.
