The North Face Allena Rain Jacket
Perfect balance of style and functionality. Enough style for work, but exactly the kind of coat you could take on a trip where you might wear it for casual use too. Breathable fabric (kind of a brushed feel - not slick; only downside is lint does stick better than if slick). Zip off hood. I ordered size medium; am 5'10" and about 150 pounds and usually wear an 8 or 10. Not huge but enough room for a suit jacket underneath. Sleeves are slim and long so larger arms or shorter arms might not work.

I love this coat! It is a perfect fit and leave extra room for a sweater! Great quality! It's a little thicker/heavier/warmer then expected, but will be great for rain showers! I just don't expect to be using it in the warmer spring months! Perfect though!

I wish I had bought this sooner. I usually dislike trench coats because I find them bulky, but this does not suffer that same problem. This looks great with jeans but can easily pass for a more dressy occasion (I'm not saying you could put it over a cocktail dress, but it definitely looks good with casual dresses and even a sheath for work). I'm 5'7", 140, 34D, and I got a medium. I could probably fit in a small, but that would likely pull in the bust. I found the belt to be ridiculously long because I think it's a cleaner look if it is buckled, rather than tied. If the jacket fits you, you will be using the nearest hole for the belt, so if you buckle the belt (rather than tie it), you are left with about a foot of fabric wrapping around to your back. If you want to tie the belt, I think you have plenty of fabric. To me this is the ideal transition coat for spring and fall, and I look forward to traveling with it. As always, Zappos is perfect.

Color: Somewhere between beige and caramel. A bit lighter than the model picture on my monitor. Form/Fit: I followed the North Face sizing chart, and I'd say it is perfectly true to size. It does not look gigantic on me, yet I can layer a thick polar fleece jacket underneath with no pulling or strain. I like that the waist sits lower than my J. Crew trench. Sleeves are nice and long, too. The back is also pretty nicely cut and does not form a huge, baggy bubble as many trenches I tried last year had done. It does however feel big when left open, probably due to the fabric. Drapes like gear, not like fashion. I am 5'4", 130. 32D. Function: I believe it is truly breathable. It is 70F here today, and I did some pushups and crunches in it without feeling clammy. I also like the zip pocket placed between the inner zipper and the buttons. This would have been wonderful for travel, providing for security but also allowing access to quick cash or a Metro pass without opening up the coat all the way. The hood is good and doesn't feel like it will slide off while walking. The real major downside is that the belt is way too short to tie in a slipknot the way I like. Seems like it stays okay with just a quick twist, but not sure if it would after continued movement. I ultimately ended up returning because of the short belt, color, and because it is probably too heavy for me. It is normal trench weight, but I want something more packable.
