Suunto was founded in 1936 by outdoors man and a keen orienteering enthusiast Tuomas Vohlonen, who had long been bothered by a problem: the inaccuracy of traditional dry compasses and their lack of steady needle operation. Being an engineer with an inventive turn of mind, he discovered and patented the production method for a much steadier needle, better readings and a new level of accuracy. By 1950 the company was exporting compasses to over 50 countries around the world, including Canada and the United States. It's a very handsome watch for everyday use. I was happy to find a watch with clean lines and without a million buttons. It's hard to read in the dark - there may be a backlight somewhere but haven't read the manual.

This has a very simple clean design and look. It is smaller than your typical Suunto X-Lander. I have not used the heart monitor or exercise features. One knock is that it does not have a back light feature.

Everyone loves how the watch looks, I can't figure out how to use it as a stop watch. Don't get bug spray on it. It will stain it. But its looks great!
