I live in Minnesota and have had a pair of Sorels for the last 10 years. The only problem is finding replacement liners. I have been out in weather that is -30 with a 40 MPH wind, and my feet were the warmest part of my body. Wore them while I was working outdoors in a lumberyard and was never cold. Just need to have a heavy wool sock on. Dress for the weather, not the style.

Okay! For my first pair of snow boots I decided to go with the Caribou. I must say the look good, but they are poorly made! The first pair I ordered had the biggest air pocket in the sole of the left boot so I called Zappos and they immediately send me a second pair. Turns out the second pair had the same problem only a bigger hole in the sole of the left shoe! If you were to go out in the slush and snow with Caribous, I know they will eventually fall apart fall and soak your feet. There are some reviews out there on how flawed the are and even pictures of people pressing the water out of their boots. If you ever decide to get a pair: Look for a small hole on the side of the of the soles of both shoes just to be safe. Also listen for hissing noises coming from your boots. If you notice this immediately contact Sorel and let them know that there is a serious flaw with their boots! Try not to get pissed when talking to customer service because they don't know what's going on; it's the CEOs that need to tighten up!

I have had the same Sorel Caribous for 30 years! I originally purchased them when I worked at a ski area. They were warm, fit well and actually became "fitted" over time, like a hockey skate. These boots are a little different than the new ones and were actually made in Canada back then. Over the years I found I was wearing them less and less and when I got them out this year I realized it was time to say good bye to an old friend. The rubber had become very hard and the leather had completely dried out. Both pull loops broke off when I tried to put them on. I just ordered a pair of new ones. I hope this is another 30 year friendship!

I live in Minnesota and have owned my Caribous for two winters. It takes way too long to get these on and off. The liner is so tight, but also is almost impossible to get into the boot itself without feeling like my ankles are going to snap from trying to force them into the boots. Once in, they feel fine. I cannot stand this though, so I am looking for something more easier to slip my feet into.

Sorel is not what it used to be -- simply look at other comments here and on Amazon! I bought my first pair of Caribous in winter 2011, and by the end of that first winter, the vulcanized rubber shell split a large gash on both boots simply from natural flexing. I was able to return these defective boots to the company for a new pair at the start of winter 2012. Unfortunately, the same thing happened again with the new replacement pair! These boots didn't make it through the whole winter before the shell cracked again, simply from wearing them! I was led to Sorel because a good friend has owned a pair of Caribous for 7-8 years but that was when they were made in Canada. I see that both of my unsatisfactory pairs were made in Indonesia, and I would suspect the rubber is not what it used to be.

I'd also recommend: MUCK BOOTS!

I thought the removable inserts were a good idea: when the interior wears out of a boot, it's done, even if the rest of the boot is ok, so this seemed like a way to add serious longevity to the boot...except that the boot wore out, first! By my second winter, the rubber cracked right through where the toe box bends. Sorel has a 1-year warrantee, but I only wear these during the winter--so I only got six months of wear out of these boots and the warrantee won't cover it. $140 MSRP should buy more than six months of wear! Also, they're very comfortable to just stand around in (like, for example, I do when I'm ice fishing), but they have an uncomfortable balance to them--they don't seem to stick to and move with my feet, giving me the constant sensation that I'm pulling my foot out of mud or walking with a ball and chain. I have very wide feet and, at size 13, rarely find shoes that fit at all. These were plenty wide, despite not having the wide designation--although I would add that they seem, overall, way too big, even with cushy winter socks on.
