The only socks I will ever buy! Pricey but worth every penny - I was first introduced to Smartwool socks about 4 years ago. Since my first pair (which I noted were a pretty penny) I thought I could get by with other pairs purchased from a variety of department stores (read name brand socks). Each of those substitute purchases is now acting as a dust rag in my cleaning kit at home. Smartwool socks are THE best investment you can ever make for your feet, especially if you know that it takes you a while to break in shoes and get blisters from breaking them in. I just ordered six pair and if you follow the instructions on how to wash them (I didn't on the first pair I got) they last and keep their "huggy" feel.

These socks are nice and thick and have padding in all the places you need it. You'll probably want a wider or 1/2 size larger shoe than you usually wear to accommodate their thickness. Although not too stylish to look at, these are probably the most comfortable socks I've ever worn.

I have some great Smartwool socks that I could no longer find, so decided to try these, even though they are more expensive than the ones I had bought earlier. They came right away, and fit very nicely. But beyond the higher price, there are two things that make them less preferable to the first socks. One -- they have a lot more elasticity in ratio to wooliness, so while they are very resistant to shifting, they aren’t as cozy and warm, and two -- the color I hoped to find wasn’t available. I chose the Taupe/amethyst (the only choice in my common size), which turned out to be significantly lighter than the photo led me to expect. Of course I’ll keep them – they’ll be good in the summer, and will probably last a long time, but I sure wish I could find the better ones I bought before.

A couple of years ago, I bought my first pair of Smartwool socks on sale at a backpacker store. They immediately became my favorite socks ever. While these mostly brown socks are not as colorful or cute as some other Smartwool socks I have, they are super comfortable and warm, without being too hot. Also, Smartwool truly never itches. These are great for wearing with clogs on a cold day.

I have several pairs of these lovely socks. There is nothing like them for wearing with boots and just around the house on cold winter nights. They provide support too in surprising ways, preventing chafing at the heel and supporting the arch. They launder beautifully and wear well. I throw them in the washing machine on cold delicate and dry in dryer.
Brands I'd also recommend: Nothing compares.
