Amazing boots - Best hiking boots I've ever had, and I've had them for ten years. My model was an earlier version but they felt great from day one, no noticeable change throughout the years. Each step feels as though you are clamped to the trail or rough stuff. I'm 5'7" 145 with pretty average feet so I'm not sure how they fit a bigger guy. The sizing/fit is perfect - my left foot has a high arch which causes the top of it to press on the tongue which, with other boots, would make my foot go numb. Because of the Scarpa fit, that problem simply disappeared. I've only half joking told my wife, in case of a fire, grab my Scarpas, Martin guitar and my Winston 4 weight fly rod.
Brands I'd also recommend: Danner boots for hunting.

Classic, Tough, Awesome - Seldom does a boot inspire awe like this beauty does. It has a classic European hiking boot style while still being perfectly functional. Initially I had worries when I first put it on, my feet got a dull ache almost immediately, after the first walk my feet were burning. The next day I put them on again, no ache. Four hours later my feet were sore, but as the day went on my feet began to feel better and better, by the end of the days it was like I was wearing a set of oversized slippers. Now, they are like two hand molded extensions of my feet. As for grip, well the Vibram soles are awesome, as would be expected. One thing I didn't expect is that it would add two more inches to my height, which on those heavy and thick trails may be a problem, but if you are on a thick and heavy trail I doubt you'll care much about two more inches. They seem barely a half size smaller then listed size, but that may expand a bit as they break in, too early to tell. All in all I think the folks at Scarpa have it right.

Timely Boots - Many thanks from Scarpa for making a great classic hiking boot. Definitely requires some break-in time for comfort. It has all the support (no pain for flat feet) and protection from the elements. I hope Scarpa maintains this boot and its original design from all the hi-tech changes occurring in other boots because it is indeed an excellent hiking classic. You'll be proud to own one...guaranteed!

Best Boots - Beautifully designed and made! Needs some time to be broken in after which very supportive and comfortable. I am pain-free from my flat feet. My ankles feel secured and my feet protected from nature's elements. Love to wear these boots even when not trekking. I can see people giving good looks at them. I hope Scarpa maintains the SL M3 boots for a long time. Many thanks, Scarpa.

Awesome backpacking boots - I struggled to find boots to fit my feet- I’m a US 15. I finally tried this boot in EU 50 (regular width) and hallelujah! The boot is very supportive and stable- it holds my foot exactly still- no toe banging on descent. The sole is very good on any surface, giving great grip on many rock types. The ankle gives enough support while being soft and none-restrictive so you don’t get pinched when you angle your ankle. The leather uppers are very thick and tough. I walked the 270 Mile Pennine Way in the UK in them and had no problems at all, they did me proud. Things to note: First, they need break in time. They are 3 season boots with stiff soles and memory materials inside. Wear them around every day to get them broken in, or take small hikes. At first I felt like I was walking on 6" platform shoes they were so stiff and 'tall' feeling! Second- Lazy people beware! This shoe needs to be cared for diligently. There is no waterproof membrane so you must be prepared to sit and re-proof them (Nikwax). Third, I found the supplied insole paper thin. Buy a good insole (not supportive, but padded). Oh, my only fault is that I'd like a toe rand for rock knocks, but the leather is so tough it handles it ok. Overall they are awesome.

AS Good as it Gets for an All Smooth Leather Hiking Boot! Scarpa has been crafting Boots in Northern Italy for over 50 years. Their smooth leather classics, the SL M3s are about as perfect as a boot can be. (Zamberlan makes a Smooth leather, w/ Calf leather lining that is comparable but lighter).I got my SLs 2 years ago and have worn them several times and they are in no way broken-in yet but the craftsmanship is remarkable. They appear as though they would last for decades w/ proper care of the uppers (keeping them clean with a stiff bristle nylon brush, warm water and occasionally whipping out the inside with a moist towel and warm water and let them dry naturally, never using artificial heat and when dry using a water proofing product like Nik-wax or Hydro Bloc creme on the outside and replacing the sole w/ the same Vibram sole as they came with and who knows how long they could last. The SLs are made to take the rigors of Backpacking, Hiking or Trekking at low to mid level altitudes in 3 seasons and low level short Treks during cold weather. They are not insulated but a heavy Merino wool sock will work well to cushion your feet as well as keep your feet warm in Winter and cool in Summer and transfer moisture for a more comfortable experience. Leather is like your skin and needs to be taken care of to protect the natural oils found in the leather when it's new. If you are looking for a boot that you can wear right out of the box and enjoy what this boot has to offer than you must realize the break-in period can take many miles but that's what makes the SL M3 the beast that it is to be. Kind of like a very stiff pair of jeans. They must be worn and looked after for quite some time before they have that nice, soft, lived in feel. Not like the Stone and Enzyme washed jeans that most of us are familiar with that come already pre-softened. If you are a hard core Hiker you will know these are the “real deal."

Best Backpacking Boot Money Can Buy - This boot was instantly comfortable from the moment I slipped it on. After 3 weekend day-hikes of ~ 6 miles each they've only gotten better. I do wish that Scarpa put a better insole in the boots. I would recommend ordering one size larger than Zappos recommends as Scarpas tend to run smaller and narrower than other boots. For heavy loads and overall durability, the SL is the boot to get!

These are the first time I have tried Scarpa boots and I found that the toe box is too narrow for my foot. The boot is of excellent quality but if you need a wide toe box these are not the ones for you. I ended up with a pair of Vasque Summit GTX boots and they fit great right out of the box. I had owned a pair of Vasque in the past and they are noted for their wide toe box.\r\nZappo\'s service was excellent. I had to return two pairs of boots before I settled on the Vasque Summit GTX and it was seamless and easy. I will definitely be using Zappo\'s again.
