I settled on these after extensive pondering prior to a climbing trip to the Tetons. In looking for an all purpose approach shoe, I was concerned about balancing room in the toe box (long approaches) with the ability to climb fourth and easy fifth class pitches. These shoes worked great. They kicked steps in snow (and stayed surprisingly dry), they dealt with over 50 miles of approaches and were super sticky on the rocks. This is an absolutely a great shoe!

Very bad hiking shoe. Not comfortable at all. Several pressure points. They do not do well over 1/2 mile. They are hot and will hurt your feet. If you are looking for a hiking shoe, there are way better shoes that are cheaper and way more comfortable. If you are looking for a climbing shoe get La Sportiva. Scarpa is a bad company, poor customer service. These are not made for any kind of distance. Don't waste your money.

Mine fit nicely and hike well. They are more slanted toward hiking than climbing than most approach shoes. A bit stiff for sensitive climbing. Weigh your needs, If you want a great hiker that can climb OK then this is a good shoe.

Poor hiking shoe, take it from a guide. I tried these shoes for hiking class 2/3/4 routes and they performed poorly. They have zero cushioning for your forefoot and they do not support your feet at all. They will not withstand hiking more than a couple miles. The hard rubber under your feet flexes in awkward spots and creates painful pressure points. I tried to use different insoles, as the ones that come with the shoes are paper thin, and this just made them fit worse. The fit is very snug because the laces go so low, but this just wrenches your foot into the bottom of the shoe making for a miserable day on the trail. The poor design slaps your foot on the ground so hard on each step, it's painful. I would not recommend these to any clients or friends.
Brands I'd also recommend: five ten, la sportiva, mad rock
