I have just recently gotten into trail running, although I have been running marathons/triathlons and a hiker for over 15 years. I have to say that as a rookie trail runner, these shoes offer me great confidence when churning uphill or blazing down. The bite they give to any surface is exceptional. My second serious run with these was through ankle deep water and mud, then into soft pine and protruding roots, finally in a grassy valley; confidence every step! I just purchased a second pair of these but could really appreciate better color selection. I did read a couple reviews about quality control issues and a perceived degradation from the Exodus 2.0, but having never worn the 2.0, I can only comment on the 3.0 and I would not hesitate to score these 4.0 - 4.5 stars.

After reading Jim's review, I'm glad I'm not the only one. I've been through 4 pairs of Xodus and Xodus 2.0 runners. I stepped into the 3.0, and immediately regretted the purchase. There were very few (if any) changes to the midsole and the outsole between the Xodus and the 2.0, but there are huge changes to this 3.0 version. The only improvement is that the new outsole design does not seem to toss water up onto the top/front of the foot the way the predecessors did. These shoes are too soft at the midsole, with big changes to the design of the heel. The offset for the front of the foot seems different. I could have worn the 2.0's for a long time - I should have stocked a closet. I gave these 3.0's a couple of weeks to break myself to them, but I finally have to admit - it's time to find another shoe. Big thumbs-down.

If you like the Xodus 2.0 you don't want anything to do with this shoe. I feel like I'm wearing flip flops, not running shoes. The upper material does a lousy job of keeping debris out. I've gone through 7 pairs of the 2.0 and was excited about an improved version, no such luck. I am not happy with the 3.0.

Wonderful product! Hands down Saucony, and Asics are making the best stuff right now. Great arch support, vibram long lasting sole and lots of cushioning! Great shoe - colors could have been better though.
I'd also recommend: Asics gel - kayano for example.

I wore these in 2012 on my 700 mile hike of the PCT. I love how roomy they are in the toe box, the aggressive sole and how breathable they are. In fact I love them so much I bought two more pair, in red, because they were on sale. I'll by more. I bought the man's size 8.5 which is one full size bigger than I usually wear. This because of foot swelling in the desert.
