I will preface by stating that I have been a runner for 10 years. I am about 170 pounds, 5'9, so a little heavy for a high mileage runner. I have tried many brands of shoes, and until this pair, I was an adamant Asics wearer. After only about 350 miles in my GT-2160s, I began to have shin and knee inflammation, and I figured it was time to switch. I did some research and found this pair of Sauconys that seemed to satisfy the requirements I was looking for: a light, supportive shoe with a little flash that could also be used to race in. These are also shaped to transfer the force of your impact from the heel to more towards the balls of your feet. Not quite like a minimalist shoe, but similar. I received these shoes in less than 2 days (because Zappos.com is awesome like that), and I took them out. Due to the fact that the transfer of impact was occurring, my calves were a bit sore for a few days, but nothing that wasn't manageable. The pain I was feeling in my shins and knees disappeared, and I was able to up my mileage after a reduction due to the injuries with no problems at all. Not only did these shoes make my legs feel a little less encumbered, but they made me feel light, and I'm able to accelerate more quickly than I have in the past. I would definitely recommend these shoes to anyone who is serious about running, and who likes to look unique while doing so. They seem to make my knees feel better during 15-20 mile runs, and I have experienced no shin problems. These are definitely worth the higher price tag, and will last for over 400 miles.
Brands I'd also recommend: Asics, Brooks

I bought these as a transition shoe to minimal/barefoot running. I have wide feet, and found these wonderfully comfortable...but the soles appear to be mostly made of foam, with little hard rubber. This shoe might be good to race in, but I wouldn't expect to log any miles in them.
