Since 1907, Sanita® has embraced the Danish word "hygge" (pronounced hue-guh) in the construction of each and every pair of Sanita clogs. Loosely translated, "hygge" means "making everything cozy". Clean design, natural materials and fine craftsmanship are just a few things that make Sanita clogs so special. Christian Andersen, Sanita's founder, utilized these three things to help make Sanita what it is today. Andersen left his career as a farmer forever when he began creating clogs out of wood. After a half-century of building the business, Christen and his son Johannes closed their successful store and completely devoted themselves to designing and distributing footwear. This risky maneuver paid off in the early 1980's.
1983 marked a definitive year for Sanita - that's the year that Christian discovered a factory in Italy that made cast soles out of polyurethane. This innovate new technology allowed Sanita to shape clog bottoms to fit the anatomical shape of the foot. With heel, arch and toe support and added shock absorption, the polyurethane heel combined with the upturned toe of the Sanita clog provided unmatched comfort and launched each and every step with a simple rolling motion. Thus, the Sanita Original Collection (then the San-Flex) was born and is still made in Europe.
Clogs have been a worker's choice for years. Anyone who stands on their feet all day knows the benefits of wearing a finely crafted clog. More recently, clogs have become a fashion statement as well and can be seen on the feet of the fashionable worldwide. For the past 25 years, Sanita has continued to innovate with superior design, materials and hand-crafted European construction. Other Sanita collections such as the Leisure Collection, Occupational Collection, Wave Collection and Vegan Collection cater to the specific needs of the Sanita customer and have helped Sanita further separate itself from other clog companies.

I got the red Croco and it's a beautiful finish. I have had them for over a year. I wear them 16 hours at a time for two days in a row on hard hospital tiles. These shoes have literally saved my feet. For a long time, 4 years! I kept thinking I must need a softer shoe because the balls of my feet hurt even when I was not at work. High heels in my personal time were out of the question. My feet felt bruised and my lower legs burned all the time. I bought 2 pairs of shoes 2X per year to try to stop hurting. Very expensive! I tried everything like Nike, Reebok, Merrill, Born, Klogs, Crocs, Alegria, Asics, you name it. When I tried these on in a store, I fit them exactly to my foot, which is wrong. I couldn't believe anyone would wear these! But after I spoke to some ladies at work that wore these, I realized that you need to be able to put your finger in the back of the shoe easily. So, since I normally wear a 9-9.5, the chart recommends a size 39 to 40. But I like thick socks at work so I went up to a 41 which was perfect. My foot is a little on the wide side and there is plenty enough room in the front. The finish and overall condition is still excellent. I wear them outside of work sometimes too because they are just so comfortable! I have a theory about why these work so well, if you don't mind reading it. Think for a second of those workout shoes. They destabilize your gait to make you muscles work harder. I had a pair and your legs really are sore after wearing them. No miracles but you are a little sore. So maybe soft shoes were actually making my legs work harder-causing the burning. These seem to stabilize my stride; to keep my legs and feet in line when I walk. Also the arch is so good I feel like it took some of the pressure off of the balls of my feet. They do not hurt anymore. I'm back in heels when I want to be! These are the most terrific shoes for walking that exist, just get the right size. You should be able to stick your index finger between your heel and the shoe back. There is a little room there but they do stay on your feet very well. They will not fly off. If you stand in one place for long periods of time I don't think these would be good for you. They are expensive, yes, but I am still saving in the long run because I use these exclusively and don't buy 2 pairs twice per year. I'll probably keep these for at least another couple of years and buy another pair of them to switch off with. Great, great shoes! Also, Sanita and Dansko are now separate companies so some people find the fit of Danskos to be a little different. When I read the reviews for the Danskos, I saw that some people had complaints about the quality of the leather-quite a few of them as a matter of fact. I have seen the new ones and I can see what they are taking about. The Sanitas, however, are handcrafted of genuine leather. Worth every single penny.

This was my first time ordering Sanita. I've been a Dansko groupie for years and a co-worker suggested Sanita. I tried the Sanita Professional Croco, and they didn't appear very high quality (in my own opinion)and felt like they were two different sizes (though they weren't). I'll stick with Danskos.

I came to own this shoe because I ordered a black patent Dansko professional in my normal size only to find that it was enormous on me. I then started researching the changes with Dansko since 2008 when their relationship with Sanita ended. I subsequently ordered the next smaller size Dansko, which was too small, and my normal size Sanita which fit exactly like my old Danskos. I don't have a problem with Dansko, they just don't fit me like they used to so I'll stick with Sanita from here on out. Comfy and cute. And thanks Zappos for being the only company to let me order, try, and return for free!!! As someone with a very small foot, your way of doing shoe business is the only way that works for me since no stores carry size 5 anymore.

I purchased my second pair of this shoe. First pair I have worn four days a week for 3 years and they look like new. Used to be a Dansko lover but I think you know the rest of that story! Love these shoes. Love my Zappos!

Beautiful shoe runs small. I have Birenstocks that are a size 39 I couldn't get my foot in the 39 Sanitas. I will try ordering a size larger.

These shoes are beautiful and I have had many compliments. They run a little small, so after I wore them 3 times and realized that they would not stretch I called customer service and they sent me a larger size the very next day. I was able to return the ones I wore. No store would do that. I love Zappos!
