Make no mistake about it the new Salomon XR Mission are not necessarily running shoes. To label them as such might undermine the intent of the wonderful design team at Salomon. Weighing in at 14 ounces the Mission XR are far from the minimalist shoes that everyone seems to be pushing in today's marketplace. Trust me as a lifelong athlete, runner, Triathlete the minimalist trend is going to send a lot of innocent athletes to the Orthopedists over the next few years, that is unless someone has been secretly been injecting concrete and asphalt softener into the roads. The XRs are comfortable out of the box, with no noticeable adjustment period. The Salomon lacing system is incredible and allows for instant adjustment and fine tuning for the perfect fit. Since I have said they are not running shoes, what are they? The XR Missions are made for cross training they are particularly modified for serious fitness walkers. The comfort and support level are exceptional and work as equally well from sidewalk to trail. Incredibly, in this reviewer's assessment, the XR Missions are the best multi-purpose shoes to hit the market for quite some time. If you want running specific shoes go to Asics, but for everything else the newly minted XR Missions are perfect for the job.

What can I say about Salomon in general, but that I've become fanatical about their shoes for running on trails; and now in the city with the XRM. The fit, feel and look of them exceeds nearly anything else I am aware of.

The good: I like the weight, the lacing system and the fact that the heel/toe ratio is the same as my street running shoes. The bad: These shoes felt great walking around, but one design flaw appeared after doing some running in them. They have a stretch material incorporated into the upper in the forefoot, but the material does not connect at the midsole. Instead, there is stitching at the connection point between the upper stretch material and the midsole, right at the ball of the foot. The stitching caused rubbing and blistering for me. The midsole material also is a little too soft for a trail shoe; you feel a lot of the trial. Overall, decent lightweight neutral shoe with a couple of technical flaws.

I am just waiting for the size 7½ to arrive. I tried the 8, the smallest size, at a local sporting goods store two days ago. The fit was good, support and comfort were right on! I did not buy the shoes because they were 1/2" longer, though it felt great. The width on these is D, I normally am 4E. I just want to try the 7½ to see how they fit. Hopefully, like the 8 or better.

Good shoe, true to fit. No break in needed. My first 4 mile run felt good on my feet and legs. Now, let's see how many months they last with me running in Afghanistan. Peace.

Stop the bus! Riotously conspicuous, anonymity denied, your neighbors will see you from 1/2 mile distance. I use the North Face Women's Ultra 50 for trail running and use the Salomon XR Mission for about town. Comfortable, true to fit (I just scaled down commensurately on size), these sneakers are out-of-the-box fantastic. All pros, no cons, except a side note to commit no transgressions while sporting these kicks; the bobbies will have you locked up in 5 minutes.

I have had these shoes for a few weeks now and have been pleased with them. They feel lighter than some other Salomons that I have had before and they breathe better than the GTX trail runners. There is a trade off between the breathability and the front mesh letting in a little dirt. My only complaint is that the arches are a little high and stiff. They have eased up a little after about 15 miles on them but they still are not a perfect fit for my feet. Overall I like these shoes. They are also very cool looking.

I had heard so much about these trail runners, so I broke down and bought them. These are very good runners. I've run trails and done some steep hiking with them. Good cushioning, lightweight, and great grip. Will buy again when and if they wear out!
