Awesome shoes! They are my second pair - first pair was the the Ultra. Minor changes to the Ultra 2 - they fixed the nylon loop that broke through on my last pair with a plastic piece I'm sure will hold up better against friction from a thin lace. That was the only problem I had for 1 year of hard use with the Ultra so I am anticipating even better performance out of the Ultra 2. Also works great with orthotics and/or heel raises due to the higher back and good heel lock cushioning.

This is my 4th pair of this shoe - 3 were the 3D Ultra and my current pair the 3D Ultra 2. I was looking forward to the new iteration, and I have been trying to like them for the last few months, but I can't. My issues really revolve around quality. The first issue is the insoles. They continue to bunch up under my toes. After a few miles it is unbearable and has gotten to the point I can't run in the shoes anymore, I just hike in them. Second, I have two seams coming unstitched already. Lastly, when Salomon went to the 2 they added a bunch more padding in the tongue and collar of the shoe. It feels good out of the box, but compresses as I run so my shoes have to be adjusted a couple miles into ever run. I am not sure why they made the changes they did, but I will not be buying another pair.

Salomon makes great shoes in the original Ultra Pro 3D and GTX. This shoe is inferior to the original design with the Gore-Tex bootie. I am on my fifth pair now and will not buy the mesh shoes again. Also the first time I have encountered a problem with the kevlar lacing system. If the outer casing of the lace is nicked in any way your pair of shoes is done. Salomon needs to find a replacement lace unit for those who are as avid as they say their shoes are.
I'd also recommend: Brooks Beast for running

I loved the look of this shoe, but found the arch support was too aggressive -- the pressure became uncomfortable after wearing them for just a short time, so I had to return them. I have worn Merrell and Patagonia hiking/trail running shoes without having any similar problems.
I'd also recommend: Merrell

These shoes are amazing. I'm currently awaiting my 4th pair to arrive. They are the best shoes I've ever had, not only for basic walking, but for any sort of trail running, light hiking, street running, you name it. Combined with SuperFeet, you just can't beat it. The only thing about these shoes is there is a break-in process, and it usually takes a while to really truly fit your foot perfectly.

A little stiff at first but broke in very well. Heel slippage as others have noticed is slight and decreases as they break it. Pull straps work great. Would buy again.
