I really wanted to like these shoes, but overall, I do not. The footbed is really firm and supportive. I like the idea of the lacing system. The Gore-Tex is 100 percent waterproof. The outside is as grippy as can be. My feet do not seem to fit in the shoes correctly, so my heels slip and give me blisters. The idea of the lacing system is good, but for some reason, it pushes into the top of my right foot enough to cause pain (both while running and afterwards). Plus, the little tongue pocket for the laces does not work quite right (in my opinion) - if you pull the laces tight, that sort of cuts off the opening to the pocket. I have read lots of reviews from people who love these shoes, but they are simply not for me.

I'm changing my review because it took me a while to realize that the shoes were a full size (!) larger than marked. I got a smaller size, and that's the ticket. These things feel wonderful. I have the Sole Dean Karnazes insoles in them, and together they make my feet feel like they could go forever. They're great.

I live in the PacificNorthwest and these shoes rock so far. Very happy with purchase and they fit great and keep my feet dry. I would recommend them to others looking for gortex trail runners.
Brands I'd also recommend: Montrail, Vasque

I'm on my third pair of these shoes and despite a few annoying shortcomings, I like them enough to buy them over and over. The little pocket for the laces makes the tongue stick up more than I like. You almost want to pump the tongue like those pump up basketball shoes from the late 80's. The biggest problem is that the laces fail. Each pair that I have owned had lace failure after about a year. The lace breaks. The difficulty is that the laces cannot be replaced. I usually fix it with a little wire clamp or tie a knot.

I returned them before trying to run in them. There is something different in the heel shape or padding that causes my foot to slip out so they clearly were not right for me. Otherwise seems like a great shoe, though the laces do not easily tuck into the pouch as advertised.
