I purchased these shoes with intention of using for paintball playing. Most people wear wide receiver or soccer cleats. You have to run a lot on different terrains requiring quick stops and turns. I had a problem with my ankles in soccer cleats after wearing for 8+ hours and really cleats are not that good in the woods. I normally wear a 10.5 or 11 in shoes depending on the brand. These required me to get a 11.5. still very little room in front of my toes, just enough to not have pressure on the tips. So they ran small in my opinion by at least size. This was the first thing I noticed. Second thing I noticed was the comfort. These are probably the most comfortable shoes in general that have ever been on my feet. I am a shoe hoarder with 50+ which I am told is a lot for man. I felt no specific pressure points under my feet. Very light weight and feel as if there is nothing on my feet but a cushion under them. The material around your foot is not to a specific shape so it kind of wraps around the shape of your foot. It did not run narrow or wide for me. Third thing I noticed were the lacing system. I have never seen anything like this other than on snowboard boots and they are somewhat different using wire with a twist lock. Very easy to lighten and loosen. Only after looking at instructions did I realize that the excess lace can be tucked into the tongues small pocket. At this point I started running around my house somewhat to make sure the sizing was correct and the grip on my carpet was incredible. After actions report: So I have now worn these 2 times for 12 hours each day. These are amazing. Worth the money I spent. They never loosened throughout the day, I had no problems with extra lace flopping around. I ran on uneven terrain in the woods and in open fields. This includes grass, leaves, dirt/mud, very little water though. They held up great. The grip they get on quick stops and turns was amazing. My feet didn t hurt at the end of the day. It provided very good ankle support. The only con I could find was that on break (every 2 hours) I noticed the top of the tongue had tilted its way to the outside of my foot slightly. Not enough to notice and may have been because laces were not tight enough. I will have to try a few different things to test that theory though. Overall this is an incredible shoe and would highly recommend to anyone.

Excellent shoes. Fit is true to size. Nubs on the soles are quite tall, so there's a little movement when on pavement. But it's still very stable. I actually wore them once in a Crossfit WOD. Not recommended, but they held up very well. Of course, they're at home on the trail. Outstanding trail runners. I read other reviews that they're hot, but I don't think so... and I live in Texas!

Got these for the VA Spartan Super. How do you spell awesome? S-a-l-o-m-o-n F-e-l-l-r-a-i-s-e-r! Other reviewers indicated that water stuck around, but I didn't notice. I just noticed that I stuck everywhere my foot landed - Mud, grass, stone, mud, mud, mud...fantastic. Thanks.

I'd also recommend: None. Saloman only.

I have never purchased a pair of any shoe online. So blindly purchasing a shoe for running trails knowing how important they are for comfort and injury prevention was a little scary. I usually buy size 10 to 10 1/2 depending on the shoe. Just to be safe I went with a size 10 1/2 with these and they fit perfect. I need arch support and room for my toes and this shoe provides both. I am 37 and have been road running for just over a year now. Not recommended for first time trail but I ran a very tough 8.35 miles in these yesterday (breaking in run) for my first long distance trail run (3rd total trail run to date). I have no pain or discomfort, just the typical feel of knowing I ran 8.35 miles from the day before. I also wore Swiftwick socks for moisture wicking and noticed the shoes were a little warmer than my road shoes. I did not have any hot spots and it was 83 degrees and very humid during my run. My main reason for purchasing this type of shoe is OCRs...and possibly use during softball season after they performed so well. Albeit one test run, I believe these shoes will work just fine. The only drawback I can foresee is drainage once submerged in water. For the price and my purposes I highly recommend these shoes.

My background in running: 12 or more miles a week. I ran in deep snow and there is good traction. I ran on asphalt and dirt. Landing impact on road feels smooth. Landing impact on dirt trail is smoother. I wear 11.5. The lacing system is awesome considering you don't have to worry about laces being untied. Perfect for beginners if you want to run trails. I feel they are semi lightweight. Design is okay. But all that counts was the comfortability, traction, and weight. That's why I recommend this product. It's a really good trail shoe.
