Great support, solid build, good for winter and breathable, but may need waterproofing for wetter weather--I wouldn't go tromping in heavy snow with them. Great tread. After a week of breaking them in they've been a great help in appeasing my plantar fasciitis when I'm extra active. The sizing is a little bit longer than average, but after testing a half size smaller it was clear the regular size for me was best. They don't seem too long as to make my arch hurt or hyper extend my toes and after breaking in a bit the shoes settled and fit better. I love Salomons.

For the past ten or so years I've lived in Salomon XA Comps, but the price finally became too high for me. I tried Merrells, Brooks and a few other trail runners but had to come back to the Salomon fit. These fit the price and quality bill for me. Salomon shoes have the perfect combination of very light weight, great arch/mid foot support, breathability, wide toe area and great traction for trail and cement. The Merrells were heavier and too narrow for me; Brooks toe box too short and the heel-toe drop too steep for me. The dark color of this shoe looked more green than grey when I got it so I exchanged for the lighter color. Thanks Zappos for your awesome selection and patience!
I'd also recommend: Merrell, Brooks

These are approximately the same shoe I had for years (I can never keep up with models) but finally wore through the soles. I'm sold on Salomon because they fit well, last long and are very comfortable but sturdy enough to protect my feet. This new pair is quite lightweight so has been perfect in warm weather. They seem to run a little larger that other shoes, so I order a half size smaller. Who knows what is, exactly, "true?" My daily walks add up to about 4 miles, and include some rocky uphills.

These shoes do run large. I ordered my usual 10 and found it too big- a 9 1/2 probably would have worked, but I found the arch support was lacking and in a strange spot for my foot.

After ordering and returning MANY pairs of hiking shoes, I settled on these for my walk on a portion of el Camino de Santiago. They have a wide toe box, which I need, and more stability than running shoes. Many of the hiking shoes I tried were either too heavy and stiff or did not offer quite enough support. I ended up having to order two pairs because my daughter decided she loved them and wanted to take them on her trip to Europe. She reports that they had excellent traction on rocks when she was caught in a downpour and that they dried out very quickly.
