Salomon makes amazing products! This boot is very warm and keeps your feet dry. This boot has great ankle support but is a little high so if you're not used to this type of boot it may take some getting used to.

This is a very nice light and flexible boot that would be well suited for light hiking on groomed trails or perhaps slick rock such as Moab. I ordered this one and the Quest to compare and ended up with the Quest because it was more suitable for my needs. The Quest is a little bit heartier of a boot with a stiffer sole. I was intending on the Cosmic when I placed my order with the afterthought of adding the Quest to see the difference. The Cosmic ended up being a little too flexible for me and more sneaker-like than hiking boot-like and could see how the feel of the ground through the sole could be problematic in very rough rocky conditions. I read another review in which they said they could feel the rocks on the trail through the sole. Although I didn't take mine on the trail, just walking around in my living room to try the fit felt like wearing a high top running shoe. The fit was good for a wide foot with a roomy toe box. It is a nice product, well built and a good price on sale.

Now this is a great boot! Light, water-repellent, metal eye-lacing hardware, tough laces. You can lace these bad boys to the top with no ankle discomfort. The upper material is also quite flexible and durable. I can take them off and put them back on with little effort. I have somewhat wide feet and these boots worked just fine. They also keep your feet warm. The sizing is pretty dead on, so you might want to go with a lighter wool sock for the colder seasons. Salomon offers a 2 year warranty on mountain and trekking products, and 1 year on all other salomon footwear. My only wish is that they make a boot exactly like this with pronation control.
I'd also recommend: asolo, keen, lowa, timberland.
