This is an excellent product. It is manufactured very well from quality materials and will perform as the manufacturer claims. Fitting a harness to an animal's body is much more difficult than a human. Be careful if your animal fits an in-between size. The medium would not fit my German Shepherd and I had to go to the next larger size, even though the manufacturer's measurements said it would fit. Not because the harness itself was not as the manufacturer claimed, but because my dog has a very muscular chest and was not typical as to the sizing chart. The securing straps for the front were too short to give me the confidence of the fit when doubled back. My intended use for this product was to enable my dog to accompany me on climbing trips where the safety of a rated harness was required. Overall, I was more than pleased with the quality of the harness and will be confidant in it when it is used. My recommendation is to go to the next size when your animal falls near the limits of the manufacturer's sizing chart. This is a great harness and worth every penny of your hard earned dollars. I've climbed for 35+ years and from experience, this is the best pet product for a safety harness manufactured to date.

We use this for serious hiking with a hyper German Shepherd as well as attaching him to a truck bed "doggy seat belt". I have never tried the leg straps on him - not really needed for us. Works great most of the time but does have a tendency to spin on his body if I don't get the straps really tight. The leg straps might stop the spin if used. Best product I've found if you are trying to secure your dog!

I purchased one of the original lifting harness in 2004 to lift our 85 lb Old English Sheepdog in and our of our sportfisher when we were at docks with extreme tides and to bring her up into the flybridge when we were underway. We used a block and tackle that we attached on the upper portion of the flybridge to handle her weight. It worked very well but did require two people; one to use the block and tackle and one to guide the dog up or down. She is now over 10 years of age and I wish there was more support where the straps hit her girth and belly and wondering if the double back would be better.

Really quality harness. Great for climbing, canyoneering, etc. Others mentioned the inconvenience of the buckles but this is intended as a climbing harness and quickclips would not be practical for safety reasons. We altered ours without compromising the integrity of the harness (so as not to have to buy two different harnesses). By adding a small piece of flat webbing threaded through the buckle side with 1/2 of a quick clip and threading the other 1/2 of the quick clip through the existing webbing on the harness, we were able to rig it for quick on/off use but can easily remove our modifications for actual climbing purposes.

I bought this harness for my Siberian Husky, who has had spine, hip, knee surgery and isn't steady going up or down stairs. Although made for climbing with your dog, I wanted to try it out to see if it would work to use helping him. I would NOT recommend this harness for an assist harness, and would not use the back leg straps on dogs with hip dyspepsia. I would recommend buying the Ruffwear Web Master harness for assisting disabled dogs, it is much easier to put on and take off, and has sufficient support, stability. My husky Sam loves the Ruffwear Webmaster, and seemed much more comfortable wearing that than this harness.

I'd also recommend: Ruffwear Web Master Harness
