These are the only things close to "rain boots" that I could find that would still allow my 14 month old to walk while wearing them. Most others are so stiff and so tall that it is not possible to bend the foot (or knee) at all. They are leather, but the patterned portion is sealed with something to make them water resistant. The sole of course is rubber, and the brown leather part between sole and upper is the only part not sealed, or so it seems. However we haven't had wet feet despite stomping in a few puddles. The shark theme is cute; however, I had hoped to find a solid color choice. The only other thing I wish was different was that the orange pull up straps were attached to the back portion instead of the front portion. There is an overlapping hook and loop flap, which makes them easy open really wide, but for the child to be independent I think the pull straps would work better if they were on the back, assuming you. If your child can pull them on without unfastening the hook and loop then this won't be an issue. What I'm describing may be made clear by looking closely at the pictures. Overall happy with the purchase, and of course Zappos surprise upgrade to overnight shipping (3-4 day was free anyway) was a bonus!

These are absolutely adorable, but sizing is a little tricky. We got size 4's for my 13 month old twins. My son's were a little wide and a little long, but easy to put on him and SO fashionable. Unfortunately, they are also pretty easy for him to remove. We ended up exchanging my daughter's pair for a size smaller. The show fit her foot, but the shaft in the smaller size was too little for her leg--and my babies are on the small side. In my opinion these are cute enough to be worth the bother, and Zappos exchange/return policy makes it easy to trial and error your way to a good fit. I was really trying to find something practical for winter in Portland, and these aren't it, but they are adorable.
