During the rise of aviation technology in the 1930s, the RIMOWA brand of luggage took wings. The founder's son, Richard Morszeck, was fascinated by the lightweight aircraft aluminum that was used on planes. It was then in 1937 that his idea of using aircraft aluminum on luggage took shape. As this idea came to light, the first overseas trunk made of this lightweight metal was introduced. Following in the footsteps of this monumental design, the first suitcase made of structural aluminum with the grooves was created in 1950. This sturdy luggage became extremely popular with flight crews, airline passengers and world travelers, who seek luggage that would show their travel miles through well-earned dents and scratches yet still stand up to heavy treatment.
Building upon RIMOWA's quality reputation for lightweight metal suitcases, in 1976 RIMOWA launched their first waterproof metal suitcases. These cases were designed for cameras and photographic equipment to protect the items from water, humidity, tropical heat, and even arctic cold. The creative concepts did not stop there for RIMOWA. In 2000, RIMOWA raised the bar even higher for quality luggage by launching their series of polycarbonate luggage, the first ever on the market. Known for being almost indestructible, the impact-resistant polycarbonate practically pops dents back out all by itself. Over three different centuries, RIMOWA cases have been able to handle anything they are asked and expected to do. Through expert craftsmanship, high-quality material, and precision manufacturing, the original principle upon which the company was founded lives stronger than ever today. With their popular series of exquisite luggage collections such as the Salsa, Salsa Air, and Salsa Deluxe, the tradition for attention to detail is finely displayed. In carrying on with tradition, these collections, as well as all RIMOWA luggage, is still handcrafted with care and knowledge of customer needs. Within their factories, it is there that "Handwerk meets hightech" (Handcraft meets high tech) and the RIMOWA line of high-quality, lightweight, and technology-driven luggage is not made, but invented.

I've only used it once so I won't be able to rate it yet on how it holds up. First impression is that it's very light, very easy to wheel around on hard surfaces, and the red color is gorgeous and easy to spot at baggage claim. The zipper seems a little iffy but time will have to tell on that. They get such great reviews everywhere that I'm hopeful it holds up well. I'm not in love with the clamshell style where both sides of the suitcase hold clothes rather than having more of a big bottom section with a lid (I'm probably not describing that very well). If you want to keep your clothes in the suitcase rather than unpacking it makes it more of a challenge to get in & out of the suitcase every time you want something. Also, this is my first spinner and while I love how easy it is to push around it does roll away on its own so if you're not on level ground you have to be aware of not letting that happen. And pushing it on the carpeting in my hotel was tough so I ended up tilting it up on 2 wheels anyway - a minor complaint but it's something to consider if most of your floors will be carpeted. It survived its first 2 flights with minimal scuffs and no gouges or deep scratches. I'm worried about the wheels getting snapped off with the way bags are handled but fingers crossed it holds up! I'm giving it 5 stars for now but that might get adjusted if there are zipper or wheel issues over the next few times I use it.

This bag is a dream come true! I have long wanted a "spinner wheel" bag and after much comparison shopping between brands, I decided on both the Rimowa Salsa Deluxe 26" and the 22" cabin model and took them directly to Europe on a long business trip. They glided smoothly through airport departure and arrival, transfer to trains, transfer between trains, and then rolled like butter onto the lift and into to my hotel room. I was by myself with two heavy bags and I have never before traveled so comfortably! I made my choice over the Salsa Air because the Salsa Deluxe line has more ease for packing with the removable packing dividers that allows one to pack every inch full and then strap it all down with the dividers. It also has a more comfortable handle and seems a bit more sturdy. This luggage is well worth the price. I can't wait to use it again! Thanks to Zappos for always being so good!

I love Rimowa. I own both the Salsa Deluxe purchased a month ago and the more simple 29 inch standard Salsa, which I have had for 4 years. I travel frequently on the airlines and have found that the Rimowa will survive the beating that the luggage handlers give it. My only fear with the standard was the zipper would not hold up, but it has. These suitcase are as light as a feather and handle with ease on hard surfaces a little more difficult on carpet, but still great. My only concern for the deluxe is that wheels jut out from the body of the case and I am afraid they might get whacked off with rough airline handling, but so far so good.

I purchased this for a trip I had to France. It when way beyond the call of duty! When we arrived It was pouring rain. Everyone's suit cases were drenched (I'm sure the articles inside were too). Everything inside my case was dry! Then on returning I placed some street art inside. Because it is a hard case the art wasn't bent at all! I would highly recommend this suit case to everyone! It is also very light and packed much more than I thought possible! It is expensive but for as little as I travel I don't think I will ever have to replace this. Well worth it!

I purchased this suitcase in red and it's gorgeous. It's very lightweight and so easy to maneuver. The interior makes it easy to separate clothing and is more spacious than I thought it would be. Not inexpensive, but worth the price.
