Quality. The featherstone leather is a bit more difficult to break in than the chromexel, but the durability and longevity is second to none. What does this mean? Well, one you have them broken in (hint: mink oil + black trash bag + sun + 12 hours) you will have a sturdy and essentially indestructible boot. They will age and patina nicely, and the oxblood mesa color is fantastic. The quality of the featherstone leather shouldn't be underestimated. The old chromexel (Horween) leather was fantastic, but this new supply is great as well. Very different qualities, but worth it in the end. I approve Red Wing, I approve.
Brands I'd also recommend: Wolverine, Alden, Sperry Top-Sider, Timberland

These shoes have a hefty price tag, but you're paying for quality. I purchased a pair recently and have been quite impressed. First of all they look great. The leather and sole feel as though they'll last a lifetime with proper care. I found the boots to be a half size too large. Also, I was expecting a hard time breaking these in, but really it didn't take very long. No blisters. Also, if you're taking these out in the elements, I recommend buying Red Wing's silicone waterproofing protection. Mink oil usually darkens leather, but silicone preserves the original color. Truly great boots.

Absolutely love these boots. I ordered Red Wing and Frye boots and the quality of the Red Wings are miles ahead. I've started the long break in process with these thick boots. They look great at the office yet they are beefy enough to stand up to the outdoors. Love them.

This review is a warning to anyone considering purchasing footwear by Red Wing Shoes/ Irish Setter Boots. This company is the manufacturer of supposedly top quality boots and shoes and are priced accordingly. I purchased a pair of these boots at quite a high price as I was hoping they were as good as advertised. However, I was bitterly disappointed when the boots caused irreparable damage to the carpet in my vehicle. The leather dye came off the boots with some snow and slush this past winter, resulting in the carpet stains which will not come out. After four months of multiple communications and annoyance at being ignored with Red Wing I have found out that they will not back their product and cover the cost of replacing the carpet. The simple fact that they took this long shows they are more interested in foiling any attempts by consumers to receive satisfaction. So if you believe that you are purchasing a quality product backed by a superior company, my experience demonstrates that you may be sorely disappointed.
