WOW.. I've been looking for some comfortable shoes and I have found them! My foot is a little wide and I have a high arch but the toe box is roomy and the arch support pretty good in these shoes. Not doing any long distances but for some short recreational runs, am blown away by this shoe. My feet feel like they're in a protective cocoon.. they float above the sole and never make impact with the ground. Without being all mushy, the cushion of the show is stable and protective.. unlike any shoe I've ever worn. I wear a 10.5 and bought them in an 11. Actually look forward to going for a run in these.. going for one as soon as I'm done with this review! If you don't mind spending the money, give them a try. Zappos is always awesome and you can return them if you hate them.

These shoes, and the Bondi, gave me a new lease on running. Injuries just don't happen anymore. I've used them for long miles on fire roads and semi technical trails, and roads. Not the best choice for technical fast descents, like Mount Marathon, but superb for less demanding hill climbs/descents and ultras. Goofy looking, but when you run far and fast it does not matter.

I bought these shoes due to having an arthritic knee that was regularly sore after my runs. Happy to say that I'm able to run on consectutive days with no residual soreness. My wife calls them my clown shoes but their cushioning makes up for their lack of style points.

Okay these are the not the sleekest looking sneakers. But once they are on, they don't look as goofy as they do in the box. Honestly that doesn't matter once you have them on. My husband has really messed up knees. Years of college track and basketball and running have taken their toll. These sneakers have given him a new lease on running. I think you definitely have to make sure they are properly laced. Husband took out the speed laces and put in traditional laces. This particular style is not really for trail running. There ARE trail versions. I think people who have complained about the shoe being unsafe or a "joke" weren't perhaps wearing the proper style for their chosen activity. My husband finds these sneakers to be extremely light and stable. They have really given his joints a new lease on life. He wears one the Bondi for work and this style for running. Highly recommend for those who struggle with joint and foot pain. These do seem to run a half size small so keep that in mind!

I love this brand! I have bought four pairs now. The biggest problem is that the sides do not hold up very long. The last time I tried to order the solid Florescent Green ones, there were none to be found!

23 years of road and trail experience ranging from 5K-100 Miles and what I will say is that for me these shoes allowed me to take another step in my evolution as a runner. I wore Adidas Trail Response for over 20 years before they were discontinued as well as Salomon and North Face. Don't be discouraged by the price or the minimalist community. They may or may not work for you just like if you wanted to run in the Luna sandal. Find what makes you run faster and farther.

I love the these shoes. I am a heavy runner, so these provide super cushion for my feet. Nothing else out there compares. Nice lacing. Shoe is well built. Would also be a good walking shoe.

Hoka are the best brand of shoes. As a registered nurse and long distance runner, I have always had to have good shoes on my feet. Best shoe since New Balance 806 Trail Runners were discontinued. Walk with pain no more!

As a 58 year old male MD long time skier and new to running for 6 months now, I was concerned that the wear and tear on my arches, knees and back would limit my durability for the sport. I had tried multiple high end running shoes seeing no real differences. Then my dentist, an avid lifelong runner, told me to try Hoka One One. OMG. Forget about the way the look. Toss out all your other running shoes(I did). I have a 9 4E high arch shoe size...always hard to fit. Right out of the box, these Mafate 3s were a perfect. Running on them feels TOTALLY different...comfortable, stable and less wear and tear on all my joints. These are "game changer" running shoes for which the competition has no answer. Cannot help but thinking back to the change from cable boots and cable bindings to buckle boots and step in bindings. Open up your wallet and buy a pair...you'll enjoy that next run even more!

Brands I'd also recommend: No other brand can match it.

This is my second pair of Hoka's. My first pair was the Bondi 2 and I thought they where comfortable. The Mafate 3 is extremely more cushioned from toe to heel. Shoes are used for all day wearing and walking. I had to go up a half size because they are narrow. The color makes a nice statement.

Wonderful off road and winter road shoe. Toe box initially felt tight, but ended up feeling fine after the first run in them. My bunion had enough room.

You must buy these shoes. At 220 lbs, I have no aches and pains in these. They are not pretty, so gave them 1 star in the style dept, but who cares!

OK, so the shoes look a bit funny. I call them my "fat" shoes (not phat). I thought I was going to have to give up trail running but the Hoka's have brought me back. Great for hiking too in moderate conditions.

My podiatrist recommended Huka Shoes for a stubborn heel spur, that would not go away after 2 injections. My wife and I do long distance walking . The shoes are extremely well cushioned, and extremely comfortable. I cannot report that the heel spur went away, but so far the symptoms are greatly reduced!

These are my first Hoka One Ones and I'm happy to announce they live up to what I read about them, especially in the downhill dominance department. I've never run so confidently and comfortably down steep terrain as I have the last couple days in these shoes, and my reduced times on known routes are the proof. Running uphill is a lot like in a normal shoe. They're lighter than I expected (about the same as my previous trail running shoe), which is welcome considering their size. I did find myself tripping on a couple steps on my first ascent, stepping a couple millimeters too low to compensate for the high outsole and deep tread. This lasted about a mile and I haven't noticed it since. I'm surprised Hoka One Ones aren't marketed more to city runners. The Mafate 3 (even though it's a burly trail shoe) turns the hardest of surfaces—like concrete city sidewalks—into feeling like soft dirt. If I were doing more city running, though, I would look at the tarmac-focused Hoka models, as the tread on these is pretty intense. I like the pull tie for the most part. It's fast and easy and doesn't loosen. However, it's hard to evenly distribute the tightness along my narrow foot. It mostly just tightens the top half of the shoe. A set of standard laces is included in the box so I may switch it out. Overall, it was easy to give these shoes five stars and I highly recommend them to anyone who spends time running in the mountains.

This was my first pair of Hoka One Ones. I took my first run in these yesterday; a trail 10k. I absolutely loved them. My feet have been taking a beating on the trails but with these Hoka One Ones my feet now love me. I felt like I wanted to keep running. I am really looking forward to trying them on longer runs including some ultra-marathons. They were returning energy as I was running and felt very stable. The biggest difference is the increased stability on the downhill. I was running faster and gaining energy. While I might use other shoes to work on form and muscle strengthening, all my longer runs are going to be done in these wonderfully cushioning shoes.

I considered buying this, given its reviews by others. However, I was very concerned with the lack of stability that all that cushiness suggested. Ankle support seemed very much exposed.

I bought these shoes for some local trail running over the winter, and overall, they didn't disappoint. First the good... 1. The cushioning is sublime. Seriously. I run in the Stinson Tarmac on the road and the Mafate is even softer and cushier than that. It absorbs EVERYTHING...rocks, roots, uneven trail, etc. 2. Almost as stable as the Stinson. Since it does sit up a tiny bit higher I think there's a tad more opportunity for some foot/ankle instability, but not much. I use an orthotic and that coupled with the bucket seating of this shoe provide more than enough stability for me. 3. Traction is great in snow, mud and hard pack. Never had any trouble. Now the not so good... 1. I could probably have bought these a half size larger and been A LOT happier. Both this shoe and my Stinson Tarmac are size 12's, but this one runs just a touch smaller. It feels like there's just less room in the tow box than the Tarmac and thus, my toes get a bit sore by the end of my run. It's not terrible, but enough that next time I'll t ry a 12.5. 2. They look ridiculous. Get over it. 3. Like the Tarmac, I'm not a huge fan of the speed laces. To each his/her own on that one though. I wish the actual laces were stretchy...that would help. So yeah, there you have it. The pros greatly outweigh the cons and I'd definitely buy them again. I'm on my first pair of Stinson Tarmacs still and have over 500 miles on them, so I expect similar longevity here. Great shoe that's really help reinvigorate this 'stability +' runner's drive.

Others have said the Hokas run small, but I had to go down a half-size in these. I hate the speed laces and these may be the hottest pair of running shoes I've owned, but otherwise pleased with the performance.
