OK, so the shoes look a bit funny. I call them my "fat" shoes (not phat). I thought I was going to have to give up trail running but the Hoka's have brought me back. Great for hiking too in moderate conditions.

Had these just about a month now, and they aren't getting them back, I use them for off road jogging and walking, have 65miles in so far and they are great, no soreness in the legs or hips, I'm 68 year old and weigh 220lbs, love them!

My podiatrist recommended Huka Shoes for a stubborn heel spur, that would not go away after 2 injections. My wife and I do long distance walking . The shoes are extremely well cushioned, and extremely comfortable. I cannot report that the heel spur went away, but so far the symptoms are greatly reduced!

The Hoka One One Mafate is a joke. Unfortunately, at this price, the joke is on me. After reading all the glowing reviews for the Hokas (on Zappos and elsewhere) I had very high hopes. I was even willing to deal with looking like a total goofball wearing platform running shoes if it meant my feet would last longer on the trail. Today I took the Hokas on a 25 mile trail run. I normally wear a very light, thin, minimalist NB shoe that is very stable. I have wide feet, under-pronate severely, and run on the outside edges of my feet. The Hokas wanted to roll-out right away. The only way to avoid rolling my ankles was to keep constant vigilance on my step. I had a few minor rolls anyway, but I usually have none. I'm not a heel-planter, so all of the cushioning in the heels is just added weight to lug around. However, if you want to use bad form, these big foam platforms will let you flop, slap, and flounder yourself down the path. Running on the super thick foam soles of the Hokas is like running in a bouncy house. They are so unpredictable and unstable, I got sore just trying to stay upright. Ultimately, they did nothing to reduce the pain and soreness of a long run. These are not minimalist shoes in any way, despite what the description says. They are a novelty item at best, and a health risk at worst. They introduce more risk for injury than any other running shoe I've worn, ever. If you are serious about avoiding injury and maintaining good form, skip the Hokas. Get a solid minimalist shoe, and toughen up. Trail running is hard, and it can hurt when you're going long distances. There's no way around that. Foam platform clown shoes won't help. These aren't miracle shoes. I just wish I hadn't spent this much to learn that.

I love these shoes and Zappos had the largest selection. Other sources did not have my size. Zappos delivered them in 3 days, which was wonderful.

These are my first Hoka One Ones and I'm happy to announce they live up to what I read about them, especially in the downhill dominance department. I've never run so confidently and comfortably down steep terrain as I have the last couple days in these shoes, and my reduced times on known routes are the proof. Running uphill is a lot like in a normal shoe. They're lighter than I expected (about the same as my previous trail running shoe), which is welcome considering their size. I did find myself tripping on a couple steps on my first ascent, stepping a couple millimeters too low to compensate for the high outsole and deep tread. This lasted about a mile and I haven't noticed it since. I'm surprised Hoka One Ones aren't marketed more to city runners. The Mafate 3 (even though it's a burly trail shoe) turns the hardest of surfaces—like concrete city sidewalks—into feeling like soft dirt. If I were doing more city running, though, I would look at the tarmac-focused Hoka models, as the tread on these is pretty intense. I like the pull tie for the most part. It's fast and easy and doesn't loosen. However, it's hard to evenly distribute the tightness along my narrow foot. It mostly just tightens the top half of the shoe. A set of standard laces is included in the box so I may switch it out. Overall, it was easy to give these shoes five stars and I highly recommend them to anyone who spends time running in the mountains.

This was my first pair of Hoka One Ones. I took my first run in these yesterday; a trail 10k. I absolutely loved them. My feet have been taking a beating on the trails but with these Hoka One Ones my feet now love me. I felt like I wanted to keep running. I am really looking forward to trying them on longer runs including some ultra-marathons. They were returning energy as I was running and felt very stable. The biggest difference is the increased stability on the downhill. I was running faster and gaining energy. While I might use other shoes to work on form and muscle strengthening, all my longer runs are going to be done in these wonderfully cushioning shoes.
