I love Altra's zero drop shoes. My feet would ache and become numb in running shoes with a cushy heel and a neuroma on one foot really pained me after a couple of miles. Altra's have been my answer to greatly reduced pain. Have three different styles, wearing to work, run, kick around. Orange is not my color but can't have everything! Also seem to need to buy larger size than perhaps you are used to!

These shoes are awesome! At first they feel a half size too big until you begin to hike in them, then the engineering all makes sense. The larger toe box allows your feet to spread out and take the uneven terrain naturally. The rock plate is great and protects my feet better than the old fashioned hiking shoes which would not give and roll my ankles on rocky trails. The only thing is I have skinny feet, so I replaced the laces right away with elasticized laces which keeps them snug at all times. Wool socks in the winter and my feet stay cozy. It always seems that the truly comfortable shoes are ugly, so why should these be any different? These shoes have more than lived up to my expectations!

I bought these for trail running in the rain/mud, because the Torins don't have a good profile. Like all Altra shoes, they run one size too small, but unlike other Atra shoes, these do not come with two pairs of insoles. The insoles delivered with them have arch support, so I had to use my stinky Torin insoles on my first run with the Lone Peak 1.5, and was not happy about it. Apart from this one flaw, the shoes are perfect. They have great grip, hold up well in the rain, the toe box is high and wide, and the ankles do not rub against them. I will be getting a pair of dirty girl gaiters to wear with them - the closeable velcro tab in the back is genius! A word of caution: I went on an 8 hour hike up a steep mountain with them on, and my soles were a little sore from the rocks after.

I'm really happy with these so far. I got them for ultra light backpacking, where I will be hiking 20-35 miles a day with a 10-20 pound pack, for multiple days. I like the wide toe box (it looks rectangular from above) and am able to really spread my toes. I will have to play with the lacing because I do slip forward a little on down hills. The grip is very sticky and secure. I felt like I had a lot of push off in my stride. I love the velcro on the back for my gaiters--just a little but helpful touch. For street shoes I wear a 6 or 6.5 usually. For most back country shoes I wear an 8 (I like them big). For these, I wear a 7.5 since they seem designed to be a bit roomy.

This is a beautiful shoe, just a bit too big. I will order one size down. My previous Altras allowed me to hike in Colorado without a cramp in my foot or toes! This is a first in 30 years of hiking! Thanks, Altra!

Surprisingly comfortable even though I have been wearing an orthotic support in all of my shoes for the last 5 years Just hate the choice of colors! Bright orange and lime green - even the Men get a nice red and black version.

The sizing in the Altras keeps me guessing. I normally wear a size 7½. I have the Altra Torin in a size 8, which I love and has helped me get back into running now that a bunion is starting to cause problems. I have to return the size 8 Lone Peak, however, for being too big. I have not tried the 7½ yet but it seems these shoes, unlike other Altras, run true to size.

It is really different having such a flat shoe. It does run big as I wear an 8.5 street shoe and 9.5 running shoe. They are light and seem to grip well. Be sure you allow yourself time to adjust to the flatness. I am still getting used to them. My friend who did the triple crown swears by these shoes and I trust her advise.

I switched to Altra's a few months back and have loved them. Most of my runs are on hilly trails, and the Altra Intuition 1.5 lacks the tread to do well. Based on the reviews (and ice on the roads and trails), I bought a pair of the Lone Peak's. They are an amazing color and very light. The tread wasn't as aggressive as it looked based on the pictures and description, but was better than any other Altra shoes. I wear a 9.5 in the Intuition's, and got the same size in the Lone Peaks. The Lone Peaks were significantly wider than I expected and I felt like I was sliding around in the shoe. The toe box was a great width, but the shoe didn't snug up around the midfoot and felt too big. I did a 6 mile run in them hoping that my initial impression would be proven baseless, but was disappointed. My foot was sliding around like crazy on the downhills and, while they have great padding and the toe box is great, I spent most of the hills wondering if I was going to get massive blisters.

Horrible. I'm sad to say that because I love Altras, and will keep buying them, but this style was a fail. I ran with them once and 1) my left foot cramped on the outer side 2) my neuroma flared up after 1 mile 3) my hip bone hurt during the run, but the next day really hurt. Bottom line - not only are these ugly (looks weren't important when I ordered them but they were shockingly ugly) they may have caused my hip to be injured. Terrible shoes.
