Leather uppers are bulletproof. Gumlite soles will wear out far more quickly than the Vibram heavy lug soles especially if you wear them for work. The tradeoff is that the Gumlite sole is light. Nice if you do a lot of walking in your boots.

Brands I'd also recommend: Redwing (U.S. made)

The leather is a bit thin, so it'll give your shoes odd wrinkles, unless you're into them then it's not a big deal. It's not worth the price they're posted, but keep in mind you're also paying for the service and shipping. OVERALL, these are good boots that get the job done, but they make weird wrinkles due to the leather.

I first saw the Chippewa brand boot on the J Crew site. It was very similar to this style, except that it had a loop on the back. Also it cost a lot more and was always excluded from their sales. I bought these for my son and son-in-law for Christmas, and they both loved them. I think they were a great substitute for the pricier ones, and I was able to give them a quality work boot that they could also wear with jeans and look good. They do run a half size big. As usual, great service from Zappos.

I like them and prefer American made. These come from Wisconsin. They look exactly like in the pictures (in the video they looked slightly different). I put a protective coating on them and the original color darkened and changed a lot. I preferred the original color but I want them to last. I ordered a half size smaller and they fit though the original size might have worked also.

Very comfortable, classic boot. Hiked 8 hrs. the first time worn with no problems. Light weight with good traction sole. Comparable quality but lower priced than Red Wings.

I was worried about buying boots online, but I couldn't find these locally. Was worried about the size, so I bought two pairs -- one a full size smaller and one a half size smaller. Turns out the full size smaller was the best fit. I need the wide size, so maybe that's why? Anyway, these boots were surprisingly comfortable right out of the box. With a good pair of socks they seem good to go. Bought some mink oil and Obenauf's for treatment. I expect to wear these a lot! (I can do without the flag emblem in the laces, but whatever.) Thanks to all the other reviewers and to Zappos for great service.

This is my first foray into boots, and I have been very pleased with my purchase. I've had no problem being on my feet all day when wearing them, and they look great. I started out a half size smaller, but ended up going a full size down. The EEE width has fit me fine, despite not having especially wide feet. The boot is a bit darker than the picture might suggest, but still looks great. I would recommend these to anyone that is looking for a stylish boot that is comfortable as well.

These are the best boots I've ever owned in every way. They are made of very high quality materials, so give them a few days to break in. You won't be sorry. Once they're broken in, they feel to your feet like a well-worn baseball glove does to your hand. Also, I would order them at least a 1/2 size smaller than you would typically wear because they run a little large. Enjoy.

I am very happy with these boots, they were comfortable right out of the box. They do run big, I am a 13 but went with a 12 after reading reviews and the fit is just right. I also went with the wide and am glad that I did because if this is wide I do not want to see medium. The quality of materials and construction are just what I was looking for at a price that beats the competition.

Solid boot and great value. Missing some of the details of the other, more expensive competitors, but if you can't (or won't) pay more than $200 for boots, these are hard to beat. I normally wear a 13 in sneakers and have a wide foot. The 12 EE fit much better than the 13 EE; however, despite the EE width, these run narrow. I took them to a cobbler to stretch them and that worked well enough (he also commented on how well crafted they were). Not crazy about the hex nut eyelets and the top eyelet above the speed lacing really makes no sense at all (maybe to save your pant hem from wear and tear?). Also I ordered the chocolate color and to me, there's just something about the leather that looks a little cheap. I don't have a lot of confidence in how the patina on the leather will develop over time. I wish I had gotten the lighter Rodeo version.

Really nice ankle boot here, this is the second pair I've ordered. Leather is nice quality and the boot is immediately comfortable - no long break in period. For me it was true to size. Be aware this boot has no insulation and may leave your feet chilly if out in the cold for extended periods. Also noted that on my first pair the heel padding inside the boot wore thru after a few months but this seems typical of all boots I've worn. Overall a very great boot.

A basic well made and American made work / casual boot. Have worn this model for many years. Too many to recall. Last pair with the cap toe is going on 15 years. Still wearable for work, but need new pair to break in and can wear casually until they look only suitable for work. Great buy and great service from Zappos. Used to buy from Cabelas, but they have gone over to China.

These are quality boots! They take longer than normal to break in, it's been 2 weeks and still not there yet. Listen to the reviews, they run long & narrow. I'm sure they will hold up, I've been hard on them already & they still look great. Made in USA!

I was recently searched for a boot made in the USA. I found these. I read that they run a half size big. I usually wear an 8 so I ordered a 7.5. Perfect fit. The leather was a bit stiff initially, but after a few days and a application of mink oil, they loosened and fit like a glove now. Very happy with them and am looking to buy another pair now.

These boots are good but when I spend this much on boots I would expect them to last. While the uppers have lasted fine I wore out the soles in less than a year. The tread on these boots is shallow to begin with but paired with the vibrax sole they wear out exceptionally fast. Also the ankle support isn't great and the soles rolled outward on me quickly and I've never had a pair of boots do this before.

Looks nice out of the box, but after about a year's worth of wearing, I've found the toe to crease in a very ugly way. I expected some wrinkling and creasing of the leather, but the seemingly low quality of the leather has caused several thick, fat wrinkles on the left toe while leaving more expected fine creasing on the right. I've mentioned this on some online style forums, and found others had the exact same issue; leading me to believe it's a problem with quality rather than how I wear them. Otherwise a perfectly fine product. Durable and relatively comfortable.

Great boot. Provides excellent arch support, probably the most arch support I've felt from a shoe/boot without inserts. Boot feels comfortable, and doesn't appear to require a long break-in period. The one negative I would say is that there pretty slippery in snow. We had some snow showers yesterday that resulted in about 1" of accumulation and they were slipping a little as I was walking. Overall a great boot, especially since it's welted and the soles can be replaced down the road.

These were high quality, comfortable boots when I tried them on. My foot measures 12.5 on a Brannock device, and the size 12 fit me well (making them a half size large). I decided to return them though. I'm admittedly a city slicker looking for some stylish boots that can run the gamut from jeans and a t-shirt to an OCBD and a cardigan. These were a little too bulky and bulbous for the latter, in my opinion. I know work wear boots are in style these days though, so you may disagree. All considered, I would recommend them as long as you understand these are thick, serious boots for a lumberjack look. They'll look anachronistic in the city - which might be exactly what you're going for.

These are really great, but the rolled leather ankle rim is digging my left ankle like no other. Had Red Wing iron rangers for 3 years and wore them out. These are heavier and definitely more robust, but have DOUBLE the break-in time. It's going to take 2-3 weeks to break them in, and I'm just having to suck up a really sore ankle. So sore, in fact that I thought I was going to have to take them off. But, it's getting better. Love the boot so I want to make it work.

These boots are awesome. I was worried they would be too narrow after ordering them but they fit perfectly. I normally wear a size 11 but a size 10.5 regular width fit great. They look great and you can tell they're built with quality. I love them already and I've only had them for a few weeks.

I've been impressed with these boots; impressed enough to write a review. Very high quality materials (leather, laces, soles), excellent construction. They look great, and are wearing like iron. Broke in easily within a week or so. They are a bit narrow, and I did end up going with a size 10, vs my normal 10.5. Couldn't be happier overall. And, of course, they're made in the USA.

These are, hands down, the best boots I've ever owned. I have been searching for a US made, quality, repairable boot for a few months. I've read many reviews online, and talked to guys at work who are wearing boots in the field all day. I went with Chippewa for the price and style. I realize there are other US made boots of perhaps finer quality, but the price is much steeper. I wanted a boot that would look good worn casually, but could stand up to some real use out in the field if necessary. I also wanted a boot that would be repairable, so that if I did my part and maintained the leather, I could expect many years of service. This boot appears to fulfill the quality criteria in spades. The sole is able to be remanufactured, and is good Vibram quality. The one stand out feature is the comfort. I read that these boots tend to run large, but perhaps a bit narrow. I ordered a half size down from my normal 11.5, and when I put them on out of the box, they felt as if they'd actually been made specifically for my foot. The break in period for the boots is more like adjusting a pair of already broken in boots that you haven't worn in a while, than a brand new pair that have never been on a foot. These boots are so comfortable, and the fit so precise, that I may take them hiking. Buy these boots if you're looking for an excellent quality boot, at home in the field, or on the street, that are beyond comfortable. Just remember, they do run about a half size large.
