I'm a compulsive boot shopper. I'm always on the hunt for the perfect pair of boots. The Born Attila in grey has ended the quest for Winter 2012-13. These are great boots. Comfortable, appropriate for weekends or my casual office, and made of leather more buttery than you expect for the price, these boots make me really happy. The best parts for me are the color and the shaft fit. First, grey is so versatile. I wear a lot of black and navy clothes, and these shoes go with either. Second, I have relatively slim calves (14" at the widest spot, tapering to very thin lower calves and ankles). At the top, these boots fit me snugly over leggings and leg warmers. They're not skintight down the whole calf, but the extra room is reasonable and looks fairly shapely. In fact, they help to add just enough bulk to my legs to balance my top-heavy frame. They'd fit perfectly over skinny jeans, and I think they'll be good with dresses and tights if I wear leg warmers hidden underneath. (I'll probably skip the skinny jeans so as not to stretch out the shaft.) The three buckles are adjustable. They don't tighten the middle of the shaft (where I'd like to see them tightened a smidge), but they do help to personalize the fit a little bit. I'm 5'5" with long legs, and these are a good compromise between mid-calf and knee-high boots on me. In terms of shoe size, these do seem to run a little bit big. I usually wear a 7.5, and the 7.5 in this boot is a half-size too big in cold weather (when I'm most apt to wear them). I'm going to keep them anyway and wear thick socks since Zappos has already done two speedy exchanges for me this week; I'd hate to see them waste more packaging and fossil fuels on a third exchange. I don't usually like to spill the beans when I find a unique style piece, but we narrow calf women need to stick together. These boots are worth a little splurge if you want something comfy, cute, flattering, and versatile.

For starters, in case you're wondering, the brown boots in reality are a darker chocolate color than the photos show. I would have settled for the color. But the quality of these boots was very disappointing. I often shop for Born brand shoes because: 1. They are usually very comfortable; 2. They are usually made well. These boots looked like they were made to be sold at Walmart. There were obvious flaws all over them, from messy cutting, gluing, and seaming, to bad spots in the leather which someone attempted to camouflage with dye. Considering Born's reputation and the fact that I paid full price for these, I am pretty much disgusted.

These boots are very comfortable and high quality. At first I got the gray, and they are a weird gray, not attractive. They'd be great if they were a light gray, but it was a weird muddled greenish gray or something. So I got it in brown instead. It's a nice chocolate brown that will go with a lot. I have 13 inch calves and it works. There is still a little bit of space between the skinny jeans and the boot, but it doesn't look bad. I have skinny ankles, and I don't find it too big or bunchy around the ankle at all. I'm usually an 8.5 or 39, but the box says 8.5/40. So I'm not sure which is the correct size. They're pretty roomy, but I prefer roomy to too tight, so I'm keeping this size. They're very comfy and cute. Love 'em.

These are beautiful boots. I wish that I could keep them, but my calves said no. I am 5'4" with almost 15½" calves and narrow ankles. They are a good height overall, but my calves push the shaft down leading to scrunchy ankles and ruining the sleek look. I would say if your calves are less than 15" for a size 8½, go for it. I will be jealous!

Stop looking. These are the perfect boots. I am a "fifty something" with a considerable amount of arthritis in my feet and ankles. I wore these boots for the first time today and forgot I had foot issues. My brand new Born Attila boots are so nicely padded that I did not mind standing around in them for a couple hours. I also felt they were great support for my ankles, as they can be a bit weak and sore at times. They are a nice looking boot with soft curves on the leather and round curves on the hardware. I bought them in black and wore them today with skinny dark blue jeans and a black oversized turtleneck sweater. I hate to brag, but I looked really good! I tried to order another pair in Grey, but they were out of my size 9. So sad!

I love these boots. I waffled a lot in my decision, first trying out a pair of Fryes that were ultimately too pinched in the toe (and too flat in the arches) to be very comfortable. But these! These are magnificent. As Born is renowned for, the Attilas have gorgeous arch support and footbed comfort, and once I pulled them on, they felt like they had grown over my feet organically. I usually wear a 9 -- though some shoes I do fit an 8.5 better -- and having tried a pair before, I knew 8.5 was the better fit here. They fit like a glove, and yet the leather is supple and giving enough to allow for thicker socks. The toe is wider than some riding boots (more a combat boot than a cowboy boot, for instance) and my toes never feel cramped. The heel is thick enough to feel sturdy, but not masculine, and the shaft is slightly loose around my skinny, long calves, but not flappy or awkward looking. They are great with skinnies or leggings, and the leather is beautiful. Almost every pair of shoes I've ever owned have required a slow breaking in, and give me blisters or raw spots after a half (and especially after a whole) day of wearing them, but I wore these boots for two days straight, doing a lot of walking and moving, and didn't have so much as a tender spot anywhere on either foot. The top of my feet ached a bit at the end of day one (because they arch rather high), but the leather has molded around them since and I feel like I could wear them forever. Love.

If only the brown had been in my size! These were the perfect boots. SO comfortable right out of the box. I always think black boots with buckles look a bit Santa Claus-y so that was the only reason I returned them but if they ever come back with my size in brown, these are the ones!

These boots are cute and very comfortable - like all Born shoes. I'm on my feet all day and no complaints. The regular size is good for somewhat wider feet or a cushy pair of socks, no pinched toes. I needed a cute, flat, brown boot all winter and I hesitated a while because of the price...shouldn't have. I've worn them every other day for the past two months, and they still look pretty new - definitely worth the price.

These boots are beautiful. No breaking these in. They fit well right out of the box. The fit is true to size. I wear a 10 medium and this was a perfect fit. I am returning them, however, as I feel that they are a little too casual for my needs.

Love, love, love these boots! Amazingly comfortable right out of the box. They definitely run at least a 1/2 size larger so I highly recommend ordering a half size down. I'm between a 9 and 9.5 and I ordered these in a 9 and they are still too big. Never in my life would an 8.5 fit me but in these boots it totally would. I love that these are casual, but you can dress them up too. I wear them around town and going out. Best boots ever!

I love these boots. The leather is buttery soft, the style is classy/classic and the comfort is simply over the top. My foot can spread out in the boot but yet the boot foot bed looks so sleek. The three buckles even add more pizazz without the biker look. I have all three colors and plan to wear them for a life time. These boots will be my go to boots when I need comfort and class. Born outdid themselves with the Attila. Anyone reading this review better buy these gorgeous boots. I wear an 11 and had to buy these boots from 3 different entities. I don't agree with a few of the negative reviews I read that is why I am informing all you ladies to buy this boot. It might not be around next year and it would be a shame to miss out on the Born Attila.

I love the color and style of this boot but the shaft is way too big for my calf. My calf is 13 inches at the thickest part and even with skinny jeans on, this shaft is just too big and "sloppy" looking to me. I really want to keep them because they are totally beautiful and comfy but I don't think I'll wear them much since the calf is so big. They do not taper down all that much from the knee to the ankle so the ankle part of the boot is not really fitted. This would certainly allow for thicker socks and jeans to be tucked in but I don't wear my jeans inside my boots like that. It is a bummer. These would probably fit a larger calve girl much better and look sleeker. The boot is wickedly comfy though so I'll see if Born has another style with a smaller circumference shaft to fit my legs better.

These are very cute boots. The condition of the boots when they arrived was not. They had major scratches on the leather and a glob of glue where the boot was connected to the sole. For the amount of money I paid for these boots, they should have been in excellent condition. And it really doesn't matter how much a buyer pays for the shoes, when they get them they expect them to be in excellent condition.

Very comfortable boot however needed a lighter gray. This was a muddy gray more taupe. Got the black ones and love them. Like wearing slippers!
