I wish I had believed the negative reviews before making this purchase. Let me begin by stating that I am a Keen lifer. For someone with an active lifestyle who has wide feet that need good arch support, Keen normally offers style, comfort, and durability. I have come to expect these qualities right out of the box with no breaking in time required. I ignored the negative reviews for this product because *surely* they must have been the result of customer error. I was wrong. Within 15 minutes of wearing these around my house to make sure they fit correctly, a spot had already begun to wear on my achilles. Just like the previous reviewers indicated, there is an area on the back of these shoes that actually digs into your heel like a screw twisting into a wine cork. Although these shoes are quite stylish, they do not live up to the same comfort and quality as other Keen products.

I've bought other Keen shoes and have had great luck. Very good fit and quality. The Santa Cruz are not like the others. They are poorly made and have no support.

Looks better than they feel. Had to return as they have almost no arch support, and were way to narrow. Bottom line -- look great, feel fair at best. I almost feel guilty giving them a 2-star rating as they are terrific looking shoes, but they completely failed at providing arch support and overall comfort.

Brands I'd also recommend: Oakley Road Trip

I had high hopes for these shoes, as they look great. Unfortunately, they were among the most uncomfortable shoes I've ever worn. There is zero arch support, which isn't terribly surprising given the type of shoe. Far worse, while the shoe fit, the top of sides and back badly cut into my feet. No way I could wear them long enough to break them in.

Super design and great look. I am a Keen buyer almost exclusively. This shoe was so ill fitting it felt like something other than Keen. Almost no arch support, very narrow through the instep and just plain uncomfortable. Would like to see the comfort of the Austin or Ambler in this design.

I bought a size bigger based on the reviews which said the shoe runs narrow and smaller than usual. This just isn't the case (in my situation). Unfortunately, I bought two pairs 1/2 size bigger because of the 3 reviews and when I received them, they were too big and the width was what I would have expected. Most importantly, ALL of the reviews said the back top really hurt the archilles tendon - and YES, they sure do. Great style BUT super uncomfortable - which leads me to an overall low rating. I don't care how good a shoe looks, if I can't wear it comfortably, I can't wear it at all. My recommendation is NOT to buy this shoe - especially when Zappos has so many great shoes to choose from.
