These are like high-tech slippers, the Minimus has a running-shoe aesthetic and a very thin profile. It is very comfortable if you are used to minimal shoes. If you are used to shoes with more significant arch support, it is probably better to work towards the minimal design more gradually, I used one of Newton Running's transitonal shoes and thought that worked really well. After wearing the Minimus for a while, I would not want to go back to clunky sneakers. The sizing on the MT20v2 is much bigger than the same number size on the old MT20, but more in line with sizes elsewhere in the industry. I wear an 8 usually. In the MT20v2, I wear an 8EE. In the prvious MT20, I wore a 9½EE (which was a hair long). 8½EE in the MT20v2 is significantly longer than 9½EE in the original MT20. They are true to fit based on industry standards, small based on New Balance's previous standards. I am saddened that the plain black-and-grey color no longer seems to be offered, the new black-and-grey has colored soles that I do not like.

I bought the MT20v1's last year and loved them. They fit like a glove right out of the box and I did a conditioning workout with them. I just got the MT20v2 and I am disappointed with them. I expected the same fit like a glove feeling with heal pad and considerable sidewall comfort, but it lacked in all of that. They are rough feeling and not that comfortable. Keep in mind I don't wear socks though. I didn't run in them bc I wanted to return them (tongue was improperly sewn). I did put the on and the sole feels good still. If you wear socks then I wouldn't see much of a problem, but for me I think that the v1's are better than the v2's.

Great shoes. I use them for running on pavement and trails. The soles are thick enough to keep thorns from poking through and thin enough to let you feel the terrain. Using them for a half marathon this weekend. I had to (re)order a full size smaller than I had for the MT20 V1.0 but still went with the wide model.

I purchased a pair of New Balance MT20v2s for CrossFit. Over the past couple of weeks they have proven to be an outstanding pair of minimalist shoes. They are unbelievably comfortable for everyday wearing, as well as high intensity training (body weight, weight lifting, or running). I have recommended the MT20s to anyone that inquires about the shoes. If you are looking for minimalist shoes for running, CrossFit, or just everyday use, get a pair of New Balance MT20v2's!

I am not normally one to write a review but I am a big fan of this shoe so I thought I'd help anyone else mulling it over. I buy a lot of the 990 NB for running. I liked the look of this shoe to wear for casual use (not training) and they are really comfortable. I was waiting for some kind of problem with the interior stitching but never materialized. I have a narrow foot but went with the 2E because I like some breathing room for my dogs. I have worn them for some long walks and they are very comfy.

I wasn't sure what to expect for my first minimal shoe, but I'm hooked! these are super comfy, breathe well. The kind of shoe you forget you have on.

Awesome shoe. This is my second pair and it is the next best thing to being barefoot.

Nice looking shoes. Light and nice fit. Problem for me was 20 years of Soccer and many torn up toes. Minimal shoes will not work for this old man. I will drop the comfort star 1 because they would not feel good when running due to aforementioned sitch.

Great shoe. I have had this shoe for about a week and I've enjoyed it. However, there are a couple things you should know. 1. The tongue of the shoe has a hard time laying flat which is kind of annoying. 2. The toe box is kind of funny looking for some reason that I can't quite put my finger on. That said, the shoe is great for everything I've done so far including running, weight lifting and kicken it at the office.

I always go to NBs for wide shoes. These are a great alternative for people who are into powerlifting but their feet are too wide for Chuck Taylors to fit properly. They feel almost the same on the bottom of the feet, but I feel that they offer more lateral support than the Chucks. They aren't the best looking shoes in the gym, but they give you tons of stability. You just feel planted and solid with these on your feet. They do seem a little longer than other NBs I've had, but the width (EE) is dead on.

I had the same issue with the fabric tearing on the outside of the shoes after minimal use. Unfortunate, because I like them otherwise! What's the point of getting a wide shoe if your pinky toes still tear out of the side? Unfortunate!!

This shoe is great for people who want minimalist shoes. I have pes planus (flat feet, asymptomatic) and would get back problems from running. However, these shoes exclusively target your calves, and in my case at least, relieve pressure off your upper joints and back. Additionally, I think (it seems) my running potential is better in these shoes. My problem with these shoes is durability. They last me hardly 2 months of moderate use. Tears will soon start forming on the pinky-toe area on both sides of the shoe. The rest of the shoe holds up well, though it quickly loses its springy-qualities. However, I'm about to order my 3rd pair. Additionally, the lightness and lack of padding from these shoes is wonderful.

I bought these shoes because they looked sweet. Something that wasn't sweet was the fact that the shoe began to tear on both shoes right near the pinky toe. I had them for just under two months and they weren't everyday shoes, so I'll chalk this up to a design engineer going through a rough patch at New Balance. In the words of Ugg, New Balance needs to get it right or pay the price, Budnick.

What a great shoe! My taste lay more toward the casual slim canvas sneakers like Vans, Converse and other deck/boat/skate shoes, but I've been interested in the whole barefoot running/hiking shoe because they seem to have a similar slim silhouette, but offer more in the comfort and support areas. My first impression felt almost like a water shoe with how light they were and how breathable the material felt, but there's definitely more support. Super comfortable and they felt great walking around all weekend in them. I do hike and plan on bringing these along because them seem like they'd work out just great. However, I don't think I would choose this shoe to run in. My knees and ankles need more support then what this shoe gives me. Also, some of the barefoot shoes out there are very odd and ugly looking, in my opinion, and this model offers a more traditional looking running shoe. Another thing about this shoe I like is that they're made of all synthetic materials. Zappos has a vegan category, but this shoe is not listed among them, but there are other websites out there that validate they are Vegan. Overall, I'm very happy with this shoe. I'm a big fan of slimmer shoes and this one fits the bill perfectly.

Great shoes, look great, really comfortable. They don't have arch support because they're not supposed to have arch support. The only interesting thing is walking on smooth surfaces -- it can be slippery at times. Great traction on pavement, but smooth tile, especially if it's wet, can be somewhat slippery. That being said, they're trail running shoes, so that's to be expected. The outsole have sort of mini spikes that work well in grass, dirt, etc. Overall, very satisfied with my purchase.

Great Crossfit shoe - great stability for any WOD involving oly lifting, squatting, burpees, pullup cage, etc. Not the best running shoe, but it gets the job done nicely.

These were fantastic shoes for about three weeks or so. Just as others have mentioned. The shoes get holes in both pinky toe areas (yes, my nails are always trimmed). Also the rubber sole started to peel off. I had a pair of the MT20s and the same thing happened. Luckily Zappos refunded my money. On this pair that I got, I went straight to New Balance and they are sending me a new pair. However I am fairly certain the same problem will happen in a short period of time. It is too bad because the shoes are super comfortable, just not durable.

Within a month of ordering these they developed a hole in the fabric near the little toe. They are a thin material and that is a sacrifice for a light shoe. I found that these are a half a size bigger than I normally wear.

Love this shoe. Looks great, feels great. However, I am getting the same early wear on the upper. The fabric is tearing at the pinky toe on both shoes. The front is also peeling back. I will be returning for a different minimal shoe.

I have been a big fan of the minimus line for sometime now. But not so much this one. I had the shoes for a month now but never really wore it since I still had the MT20v1. I decided to break them in with a little 3 mile run it felt good it fits true to size. To be expected there is minimal arch support. The top mesh of the shoes is really good they are very strong and sturdy. This weekend I wore it for a 15 mile trail run with a couple of my buddies. It did not hold up as well as I expected. We ran through packed dirt with some rocks and vegetation and a little bit of loose dirt. After mile 10 I noticed the bottom of my shoes were completely destroyed. The black treading on the bottom was already smooth and was about to fall off from the shoes itself. The quality of the material is not that great. Being that it is vibram I would have expected it to last longer than under 15 miles. This is an inferior product compared to the MT20v1 and a waste of money. It's all aesthetic.

These shoes are a rip off! They come with a label that you have have to work them in slowly or risk serious injury. Are you serious? They have little to no traction so are best used on a very dry sunny day on a track. Even the slightest bit of water and your running on black ice. On the positive side they are comfy so if your willing to risk injury for overpriced track shoes these are for you. If not stay away from these!

I previously owned the MT10GY and bought these thinking they were the follow-on model. Big mistake. My MT10GY's fit like a glove. These have a harder material that replaces the soft mesh that made the MT10's so comfortable. In addition, the size is bigger so they didn't fit. Lastly, whatever material is in the sole doesn't extend all the way to your toes. It stops about an inch before it. This leaves a small annoying ridge that you feel all the time and the surface under your toes is hard and slick. It's a bit hard to describe, but I'm pretty sure that anyone who liked the MT10's and is moving into these will not like these.

I love these shoes. I have two previous models but these just fell apart right in the toe box at the seams. I am very disappointed with New Balance. I am not sure if I will try New Balance again. The shoes are comfortable. The just feature shoddy build quality.

This is a close-to-minimalist shoe, so it's lightweight, flexible, and comfortable (it doesn't have thick soles or cushioning, which some people like/need; you have to adapt if you haven't worn this type before). Good, true width. Sleek styling comes with compliments (Got the orange). Only complaint is slight wear and tear is showing on the upper around the lacing. No holes, just slight tears, but this is after a few months with weekly wear and the occasional trail. It's only noticeable up close, and I still grab these shoes regularly because I like them so much.

I think it has excellent arch support, because it uses your own foot for arch support. It's a Minimus shoe, so it feels like you are barefoot. It's not that great for walking indoors, which isn't its purpose anyway. It doesn't grip hardwood floors that well. This shoe is for trails, like it says.
