For the record: some say runners tend to be dogmatic about their running shoes (along the lines of the dogmas surrounding the iPhone vs Android, Canon vs Nikon, Adidas vs Nike, etc. feuds) so I confess upfront to be an Asics fan. I run about 25 miles every week mostly to stay fit, but I end running decent times in races. I've been running the Asics GT-2XXX series since 2005 (starting with the GT-2100) and I've owned every single new model since then. They've created a tradition of constant improvement in every new model and the GT-2170 is not an exception. The GT-2170 is lighter than its predecessor and the cushioning provides a better ride and, in my case, helps me with my inclination to develop shin splints. The low-lights are the limited selection of colors and certainly the price that has been increasing with every single model. If you are a moderate to severe over-pronator, I definitely recommend the GT-2170.

Comfortable shoe but wore out in about 1 month. The upper part of the shoe developed a hole. I would not recommend this shoe.

Love this shoe. I have been running in the GT-21xx series for many years. This one is my favorite. Feels less flat in the heal. Whatever it is my legs are lasting longer.

Great shoe! Very comfortable and lightweight. Every day wear, and holds up very well. I have had them for about a month now and still feel great.

These are amazingly comfortable shoes for running, but I wouldn't recommend them for everyday wear. I've owned three pairs of Asics GT series through the years, and every one of them has developed holes in the mesh over the toes pretty quickly from everyday use. But for running there's no better, especially for big guys (I’m 6'4”, 250+ lbs.).

I live in a big city. Running on concrete and through pollution is dangerous and I'd never do it, like the OCD runners I see all the time. However, I walk a lot and comfort and fit are of the utmost importance to me. That is why I wholeheartedly recommend the GT-2000 line from Asics. Best fit and comfort I've found in years. And you don't even have to be a run-cultist.

Like many of the other reviewers, I've been running in the GT-2X series since 2007 and haven't looked back. They are very comfortable, and provide great support and cushion (I'm a heavy runner). They generally last 6-12 months depending on how often I run.

It is rare that you buy a product and pretty well guarantee that it will be better then the predecessor, but Asic continues to improve on an already excellent shoe. Could have done without the blue laces though however...lol!

Like other reviewers I've owned every model in the 2100 series and Asics makes constant improvement in the shoes. With the 2170 I definitely notice improved support features in the heel, arch, forefoot. The shoe is lighter a little bit trimmer, but with better support under foot. However, a negative in my case is the continued tilting of the base to make the shoe more aggressively appropriate for over-pronation. With this model it is moderately uncomfortable for my neutral - mild pronation foot position - especially while standing or slow walking. But the canted angel is much less noticeable while in full running stride. So, the 2170 is less universal as a walking or standing shoe but still is the best for running. I like the new all black coloring too. Asics continues to fall behind Brooks and Nike when it comes to colors and styling, but the structural aspects are tops!

Brands I'd also recommend: Brooks Adrenaline 12 or Brooks Trance

Ok so this is my 5th pair in these Asics series. I have to say they keep getting narrower! I have wide feet and I order 4E all the time! A little discomfort at first couple weeks...

This is my third pair of the GT-2170s and I love them. I have tried other ASICS but for whatever reason they don't fit as well. I get a good solid year out of these shoes doing moderate jogging. Very happy with these shoes.

For the Asics, I wear 11,5 on all models, but this one is tight. I don't know if it is "this" pair, or this model. I returned them, and will see how the 12's fit.

Great fully cushioned trainer. As an older runner with bad knees who runs medium distances I need cushioning, but hate bulky feeling shoes. This one fits the bill nicely without feeling too clunky. It offers a really good blend of cushioning, flexibility, and support. It's the most comfortable trainer I've ever had and I have noticeably less knee problems than with my previous pair of Saucony's. The only drawbacks are that it feels a tiny bit wider than other Asics I've had, it's not particularly light, and the colors are very basic.

Nice shoes, delivered promptly at a normal price. I use them for general wear and for walking several miles a day--not for running. I am pretty heavy, and these shoes are very comfortable and easy on the feet.

Zappos delivered the Asics GT-2170 in a timely manner and my husband loves them. I also have a pair of the same 2170's and have worn these shoes for about 20 years. New ones each year of course. I buy a size larger than I usually wear.

I absolutely love these shoes, They are the probably the only good gel cushioned running shoes with high end support and stability for flat footers. Additionally these shoes look fantastic in all black, and on the area of the big toe they have this cool reflective patch on top. This is my first pair of Asics, and I can tell you that after owning many pairs of Nike's, Nike Shox, Adidas, New Balance, etc, these are the best shoes I have ever owned. I really wish I had these out 5 years ago!

Brands I'd also recommend: ASICS!

I am 66 years old and have suffered from plantar fasciitis and tendinitis in my feet for years. I also over-pronate. Running has been difficult as a result. I have tried every imaginable shoe insert and numerous different brands of running shoes with mediocre results at best. I purchased a pair of Asics 2170 shoes. Instant comfort! I immediately went out an ran a 5k without breaking in the shoes. Running was awesome again. After three running sessions, my pronation problems were under control and the tendinitis problems disappeared. The shoe has a moderately aggressive insert which cups the heal very snugly and provides a modest amount of arch support. As a result the foot is very stabilized in the shoe which seems to promote a consistent linear gait. I highly recommend this running shoe for anyone who runs 10 miles/week or more. Especially if you pronate. Wear a 1/2 to a full size larger than your regular dress shoes if you plan to use these to run in.

The GT-2100 series is always a great go-to, and this edition is no different. I have flat, wide feet and tend to over-pronate (which leads to IT band syndrome). I've been training for a marathon in these, doing 40-50 miles a week, and haven't had a single problem. Even prefer them to the more expensive Kayano.

Great shoes. Very good fit, great looks, and super light weight. What more could you ask for? Been an NB fan for years but right now it's Asics. My only gripe is that I wanted the white and green ones but they don't make them in my size combo so I had to go with these or the black ones. Not sure why they do that.

Brands I'd also recommend: New Balance(not the cheap ones from out of the USA). and Asics
