After limited field tests in the rain, I'm glad to say that these boots have been as waterproof and --most important-- comfortable as I could have expected. This is important, considering I've never found comfortable boots before. They're good for walking long distances, and even performed decently when running. Just make sure to lace them up all the way, and they're the best boots I've had.

For light duty, these boots are adequate, but there are other boots out there that are more convenient for such work. Their real failing is exposed when you give them any heavy duty work in rough terrain. In that case, you will find that they are not designed to support ankles - indeed, they actively hurt them. For the past year, I was using these around my property - loading onto tractors, trudging through a foot or more of snow and mud, and generally keeping the house and land in order. While they worked, they were somewhat inconvenient. There are shorter boots that work fine in light duty, and when coupled with gaiters, those shorter boots are just as adequate. For such work, the "combat boot" style (tall mid-calf support, lots of lacing) is a lot of work for such work, when waterproof hiking boots would do the job. The real problems began when I took these on a winter camping trip. First, 200 grams of insulation is actually not that great. If you are going in and out of a warm area, they aren't too bad. But if you plan to spend hours in freezing temperatures, you want more. But worst, they just aren't designed for any sort of rough hiking. On a flat trail, they might be okay, but at any point where you spend prolonged time with bent ankles (hopping logs, standing/walking on the side of a hill) these boots become cripplingly painful. To understand why, check out the side picture of the boot. at the midpoint, right where your ankle bone protrudes, they surround soft leather with a hard, tough plastic. So the soft leather bends as your ankles flex, and the hard plastic digs into the ankle bone. After a day, I was sore. After 3 days I was in agony - my feet being completely unwilling to flex the ankles, forcing my knees to twist instead. After a week in the mountains, this damage was such that I moved to high-tops rather than suffer any more. It has been 7 days since I last wore these boots, and I still have pain in the ankles and knees. If you are going light duty in cold weather, these may be okay. But why bother when this price will get you so many better shoes that are easier to get into. In my opinion, if you get 8 - 10" high boots, they should be able to support you in rough terrain, and these are just completely incapable due to the design flaw.

I have had these boots for about a month now, and I must say. They are awesome! Living in Northern Maine the temps can get really cold, just throw on a pair of socks and put these boots on. They are warm even if you want to be lazy and not tie them up! I would recommend this boot to others.

I traveled to Perm, Russia for New Years. It is a cold place, with temperatures as low as -10°F and the sidewalks are snowy and icy. These boots were awesome. My feet never got cold, and I walked everywhere all day in these boots. They are very comfortable boots! They are highly recommend!

For my first winter in Montana I knew that I would need some warm ,dry, comfortable boots. I am already a big fan of Columbia gear and after buying these boots, I am a bigger fan. Even with my narrow foot the fit was perfect. One caveat - after wearing the boots four times, one of the upper eyelets that the lace passes through popped out of the fabric. Granted I was pulling on it hard, but Zappos had a new pair to me within two days, and no problems since.

These boots are absolutely amazing (jump to the end for disclaimer), they are warm well below 0 degrees Fahrenheit, and are waterproof almost all the way up due to the well-designed gussets connecting the tongue to the boot shell. Omniheat is my favorite method of insulation, just before thinsulate, and provides warmth as well as proper breathing no matter the conditions. The material, in general, is great and construction is exceptional despite one problem. The eyelets have a tendency to fall out when tying the shoe extra tight. There is, however, a very simple solution. Grab some Loctite or superglue and secure the eyelets that seem to be loose at all. Do not let this minor flaw drive you away from these outstanding, affordable, and good looking boots.

I bought these boots for daily outdoor work. I am a size 14 3/8, so I got a size 14 figuring that boots are a bit bigger and it worked for me. The boots are stiff, but after hiking over diverse terrain for about 4-5 miles they loosened up nicely. I would break them in before attempting to use them for a trip or work.

Zappos is the best in customer service. The quality of these boots compared extremely well to the shopping I had done at the mall ahead of time. Great value. Great service.

These are awesome boots for the hunter in cold conditions. The boots come a bit stiff and about half a size larger than normal but that can be a good thing if you need thick socks. Wear them for about a week prior to your hunt and they break in nicely.

I wore these around Anchorage, Alaska, when we had record snowfalls and cold down to -20F. They definitely gave me the traction and dryness I needed. I gave them an overall 4 stars because they require good socks to stay warm. On the whole I'm pleased with them - can't wait to take them into the Bush this year!

I bought this boot to use for snowshoeing and short snow hikes. Wore them on a short hike in a wet snow for the first time and the were indeed waterproof and very warm. They were a bit stiff at first and the high back took some getting used to. After 6 miles through a lot of varied terrain, ups and downs and flats I was sold. They broke in just fine and are very comfortable. I think they run slightly large and a thicker pair of socks or insole will take care of that.

Surprisingly comfortable, although they could perhaps use a little more arch support. Warm without being uncomfortably hot. They look like regular shoes when partially covered by jeans, so they can be worn anytime without looking ridiculous.

I ordered these and another pair of Columbia snow boots for my husband. He is an 11 to 12 and a 12 fit him. They were nice looking and pretty lightweight. However, he said they felt like ski boots--a little awkward to walk in. He decided to keep the other Columbia boots that were actually heavier and less money.

If you know you're going to be cold and need a good boot in the snow, this is the one for you. Not only does it actually keep your feet warm in any condition, but try sliding your foot in them just for a minute, they warm up. Great style and they are comfortable. They need a break in period though, but no more than like one or two wears. The top is a bit stiff at first, but it wont last and they will feel like normal boots. Stability is incredible even on slippery surfaces. Because believe me, I was at a snow resort, these held up just fine, and there was some serious snow on the ground.

They are pleasantly light as other reviewers have stated. They are pretty comfortable, but also pretty stiff. They will make good winter riding boots. I ordered a 13 thinking they might run a little small (I am a 12½ or there abouts). I will be exchanging these for the next size down. If you wear these boots with shorts during the summer to Wal-Mart, expect to have your picture taken and posted on the Internet. But you will look fashionable shoveling snow in them.

Awesome boots. Light weight yet feel very solid and supportive. They do very well in the snow and water. I waded into a shallow stream and they didn't get wet inside at all. I like the price too. Thanks Zappos and Columbia!

I love these boots! I require a wide width, and due to the limited number of choices available, I decided to give these a try. I'm glad I did; these are very warm without causing overheating/sweating - completely waterproof (great in snow and slush) - comfortable from first use (already feel broken in). I have not had these for very long but I am extremely pleased with with them so far. Initial impressions are of a quality constructed boot that will give years of use. The best pair of winter boots I have owned to date.

I bought the boot for my husband as a gift. He absolutely loves them. The large sizes are hard to find in stores so the size 16 is great. He also likes the large loop on the back of the boot which makes it easier to pull on and the warmth in a lightweight boot is definitely a plus.

Love my boots. First winter pair of boots I have needed in a long time. I did pay attention to other reviews. Ordered a half size smaller. Wore in temps. from 16F to 56F. Wore with thin socks. Woolen socks were too sweaty. Very durable and yes, don't tie them too tight at the top. Great boots and are even more flexible after break-in of a few days. Thank You, Zappos! Da Beast

The boots are extremely comfortable and fit like a glove. I think these will last as long as the last pair of boots I had. Only problem is, I wish they were a little shorter, an inch or two.
