I ordered these boots in the brown size 9 with trepidation after reading prior reviews. The boots are a gorgeous, soft leather in a rich brown color, and I really wanted them to work. Sure enough, however, after 30 minutes of blood, sweat, and tears, I could not get them on even my smaller foot. I have several pairs of Frye boots and have found each one to be difficult to put on initially, loosening over time. Once on, each has been comfortable from the start, and worth the effort. After some thought, I devised a homemade boot glide that worked like a charm. I noticed that the leather just above the heel was bunching up and I could not get my foot past that area. I have a long shoe horn, but it is narrow and not helpful. I cut one of those thin, flexible, plastic cutting boards I had on hand into 4" by 15" pieces, (originally 12" x 15") and slid one inside the back of the boot, all the way to the bottom. With my thinnest, silkiest sock on, I was then able to slide my foot in with only a moderate amount of effort in less than 30 seconds. My boot glide is now hanging in my closet next to my boot remover for general use! I am happily wearing my new boots which I love and almost sent back. I am a solid size 9, and found them to be maybe slightly narrower than average, but a size larger would be too big, especially since they will definitely loosen over time.

I am terribly disappointed with this particular Frye Boot. I am a small framed 5'6" woman, 120lbs, wearing a slim 6.5-7 shoe, and I can barely get my foot into this boot! The ankle area is cut so narrow that even with a boot-horn it was painful to get on, and once on, far from comfortable! I am so very disappointed - I ordered these at the last moment hoping to be able to wear them on a trip to France, that I leave for tomorrow morning, but there is no way. Not sure what I'll wear now, I was really counting on these to be right. My fault. I think I'm off Frye Boots for awhile, as I went through a similar poor design fit last year, as have a couple of friends. Plus they looked much better in the photos. Sigh.

I normally wear size 9 but got these boots in size 8½ after reading some reviews. I think the boots run true to size, so size 9 would have been a slightly better fit for length. However, that was not the main issue. I was able to get the boots on with some effort, but they are just too narrow. I have normal width feet, but they started to hurt and fall asleep after having the boots on for just few minutes. I gave it another try next day and had the same issue after having them on for five minutes. Perhaps the boots might stretch with time, but that should not be a requirement for this price. Otherwise, the boots look nice with skinny jeans and the brown leather is of a good quality. The fit is a major problem for me, so I am sending them back.

So cute! But unfortunately fit strangely; narrow in the toes and slippy in the heel. I ordered a half-size down from what I would normally wear. I would say they fit; just not comfortably. I was tempted to keep them and break 'em in, but Frye's are so expensive I can't justify keeping unless they're perfect.

I was a little concerned about these boots when I got them as a gift yesterday. They were quite hard to get on even after unbuckling the strap. Once on they were very narrow though the top. The length was perfect, no sliding or slipping, it was just around the top of the foot that they were snug. After reading online that Frye boots would stretch a little I decided to wear them around the house with thick socks on. After about 30 uncomfortable minutes the leather started to loosen up. I slipped on a pair of normal socks and now they fit like a dream. Getting them on and off is still a bit tough but I am assuming that will loosen up with time as well. I absolutely love the fatigue color. I am planning on buying the tall version as well to complete my boot collection!

I had originally ordered these a size up based on the other reviews. But I ended up returning them and getting my actual size as the heel slipped even with wool socks. Another reviewer said they were difficult to get on and off. They are not, just unbuckle the straps. It's true they are not like a slip ons like Uggs, but Frye is a boot company and they feel like boots. ;-)

So sad I have to send them back! They are just a bit too tight, need to go up a half size and Zappos is out of them. Use a plastic bag over your foot to get them on- a trick I learned at a cowboy boot store! These boots are exactly as described with the same Frye quality and leather lined and mostly leather soles.

Excellent presentation! The belt color is slightly close to brown, not as reddish in the picture. Quality is super! Great look with pencil skirt!

This boot is super squishy. I ordered my normal size and while the ball of foot area is a little narrow, the leather is of good quality and will stretch to a great fit in a couple of wears. Overall I am very pleased with this purchase. Good shaft length for those of us with distance runner legs. I didn't have any of the ankle issues mentioned by the other reviews. This is going to be my under jeans boot for the winter. The leather is less smooth than anticipated, but I like it.

Very disappointed with this boot since it was almost impossible to get my heel into this boot. I have two styles of Fryes that I live in: the Campus and the Carson Pull-On. I was excited about trying a new style, but this did not work for me. I have a long, but narrow foot with skinny ankles (normally a 9 1/2 for Fryes) and have never had a problem slipping my foot in and out of a narrow boot shaft. In these, I had a difficult time getting my heel to slip in-almost needed a shoe horn--and once they were on, they were really too small. In these, I would do better with a 10. However, I think based on the design, IF the bigger size would allow my heel to slip in easily, the shaft would be way too wide and not as strapped-up sleek. These will have to go back. I think I will just have to stick with every variation of the Carson and Campus since those work for me.

I have these in brown and black. True love! However, I am on the thin side and had no trouble getting them on or off. I order true to size in Frye -- my only brand for boots and sandals -- and they always fit.

Love these boots! Got the grey/green color which is so less "army" in person. Not too tall but this way I can fit my larger calves and jeans into them. They run about a 1/2 size large like typical Fryes. These are my 3rd pair.

I just got these boots today in the lighter color. First impressions: love them. I have very narrow feet and low arches, so I had minimal problems getting my feet into the boots. The styling is so cool, and the straps are adjustable, which yields different looks. I can see them looking awesome with skinny jeans, boot-cut jeans, leggings, or dresses. They are very versatile.

Love these boots. I generally wear a 7.5 and that is what i ordered and the fit is perfect. I have no problems pulling the boot on and can wear with boot cut pants covering the top or with skinny pants with the pants tucked in.

I love how these boots look, but they absolutely will not go on my foot with a thin sock; can't get my heel in at all. They do go on barefoot, but no good in 25 degree weather. Can't to up a size as they are already a bit roomy in the foot/toe. Perhaps a wide width will work. Sending them back, unfortunately.

These boots are definitely true to size. I ordered a half size up based on reviews and they were way too big. Returned and got my regular size. The leather is great quality and very thick, so a long breaking-in process is required. Wore them for a holiday party and was hobbling on my way home. Probably my fault for not wearing wool socks, which reduces abrasions. But I looked great and had the best boots there. These will last years and years, unlike other brands. If you like them, get 'em before they sell out.

I love this boot! I expect them to be the first of many Frye boots I will own. I have somewhat narrow feet and did not have trouble getting into these as other customers did. Further, I live in New Orleans and heavy socks are rarely necessary. I am a size 7.5 to 8 and I ordered these in an 8. They are so cute and look great with skirts, leggings, jeans, shorts - you name it. I loved the two toned fatigue suede combo, but decided on the dark brown, so that I could get more use out of them with my current wardrobe. The color is nice, but I will be saving up for another pair of Frye's in the fatigue color combination. The Shirley strappy short is not as bulky + clunky as the Veronica Shortie that I started out with. If your feet are not too wide, get them - you'll love them. Plus, buying from Zappos is fantastic!

What can I say? I love these boots so much. I wear an 8 and found the 8 to be great. I have a high arch and yes the boots need some extra time to get into, but not bad. They look amazing and I have been looking for a short, flat boot to replace my old boots and these are it. Amazing... This is my 7th pair of Frye boots and I love them all, but these will be my everyday boots! The quality and craftsmanship is amazing! Ladies go get yours! Love, love, love them!

I own numerous pairs of Frye boots and shoots. And if there's one thing I've learned with Frye, it's to size down. So I purchased the Shirley Strappy Short in fatigue in a size 9. I'm a perfect 9.5 with every other shoemaker. The size 9 fit fine. I couldn't understand why other reviewers complained about not being able to get their foot in the boot. Looking at the photos, I assumed you could just unwind the leather strap, and the shaft of the boot would open up. I own a pair of Jeffrey Campbell boots that do this, so I thought, "Oh, these Fryes must be like my brown Jeffrey Campbell boots." Yeah, they're not. The front of the shaft is stitched together with the back of the shaft. This explains why some folks had issues. And while I was able to get my foot in with no problem, I'll be returning the boots. The fatigue color just didn't appeal to me in person.

These boots are, with no doubt, beautiful. And they'll probably never wear out because, I CAN'T GET THEM ON!!!! Shoe horn, thin sock, whatever, I broke a sweat before I actually did get the right foot on and never tried my left because once on, they were too big and slipped up and down on the heel. Boo Hoo, because they were really cool.

I saw the Frye Shirley Strappy Short boots in black and knew I had to have them. I read the reviews on size and still decided to order my true size… an 8. Very glad I did and yes they are a bit hard trying at first to get on, but the leather does stretch and the fit is dreamy! I can wear these all day! I know I will have these for years and they are a boot I can wear my skinnies in and put under my bootcuts when I wear them... Very versatile and high quality, durable leather. The black rocks! I love them... There is no way these are going back! Ladies go get yourself a pair... You won't regret it... This is my 7th pair of Fryes! An addicting habit I don't mind having.

I bought these boots a couple of weeks ago and have worn them a dozen times. I l love them. I was afraid they would be hard to get on because there were a few reviews that complained about it. I got them in an 8 which is my normal size and had no problem getting them on and found them to be really comfortable. I've worn them with skinny jeans, dresses, and skirts and they look great with everything. Every time I wear them someone comments on how cute they are.

After reading the feedback on not being able to get the shoe on, I was worried but ordered anyway. I didn't have a problem getting them on and actually had to reorder a half size down (I ended up with a 6). I love the look and they are as comfy as my other Fryes.
